A SENATE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE TOWN OF PAGELAND ON THEIR CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION, TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 11, 2008.
Whereas, in 1906, Adolphus High Page brought the Chesterfield and Lancaster Railroad to the community of Blakeney Crossroad; and
Whereas, on January 11, 1908, in honor of Mr. Page, Blakeney Crossroad was renamed the Town of Pageland, incorporated, and received its charter from the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, at the time of the town’s incorporation, the population was a modest one hundred and fifty-seven citizens. Today, Pageland is Chesterfield County’s second largest town, with a growing population of nearly three thousand; and
Whereas, Pageland is known as the Watermelon Capital of the World in honor of the annual watermelon festival held in July of each year; and
Whereas, the Town of Pageland has declared 1908 as a Centennial to celebrate Pageland’s one-hundredth year as an incorporated town, and on January 11, 2008, will honor this milestone with a Centennial Celebration. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, do congratulate the Town of Pageland on their Centennial Celebration.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Town of Pageland.
