FOR
RECREATION SPECIALIST
(Sports Skills)

Time:10:30AM-6:15PM, Weekdays and Evenings as needed

Description of Duties:One (1) all-day position available. 35-hour week. Conducts sessions in new games, group/individual, rope-jumping, juggling and parachute games at 17 daytime park/playground locations throughout the City and 3 JamminJym sites in the evening. Provides in-service training in the above activities for Recreation Leaders. Assists with supervision of Free Tennis Camps as well as our several other sports camps for kids at recreation sites.
Qualifications:Knowledge of the techniques and skills used in new games, parachute games, juggling, rope jumping, and the like. Ability to teach these techniques and skills to children and youth. Ability to follow both oral and written instructions and to keep moderately complex records of activities carried on within the recreation program.
Certifications:Must have current CPR and First Aid Certification. Copies of these certifications must be submitted to the Recreation Coordinator prior to starting day. Classes are available through the City upon request at a minimal cost to the employee.Certification is a non-paid training.
Experience or Training:Prior experience working with children and youth as a Recreation Leader is highly desirable. A blend of training and experience in new games, parachute games, pillow polo, scooter hockey, cage ball and the like is required.
Special Requirements:Must be a minimum age of eighteen (18) to apply. Possession of a valid Class C Texas Driver's License (or the equivalent) is required. Must have automobile. Must be willing to work from mid-April through mid-August. No paid vacations or leaves of absence are available for seasonal employees without prior approval.
Salary:$7.65/hour plus $3.44/hour car allowance

JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.Assist the Recreation Coordinator as needed with reports, projects, and paperwork
2.Participate in all required staff meetings
3.Be available to work some evenings and weekends as required for events
4.Interact with the public and present a positive image of the department
5.Interact positively and professionally with all department staff
6.Work successfully on multiple projects at the same time
7.Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
8.Must be flexible and willing to assume duties not specified in this job description as needed to ensure successful program operation
- Any other duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator
10.Will be assisting with sports camps.

Place:Room 201-City Hall/509 East 7th Avenue
Description of Duties:One (1) all-day position available. 35-hour week. Conducts arts & crafts activities according to schedule at 20 recreation sites throughout the City. Provides in-service training in arts & crafts for Recreation Leaders as well. Please see attached sheet for more detailed job description.
Qualifications:Knowledge in the practices, methods, materials and techniques used in arts & crafts within a recreation program. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep moderately complex records of attendance and participation in this activity. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access required. Strong organizational skills required.
Experience or Training:Prior experience as a Recreation Leader or working with children and youth is highly desirable. A blend of training and experience creating and making Arts and Crafts is desirable.
Certifications:Obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Copies of these certifications must be submitted to the Assistant Recreation Coordinator prior to starting day. Classes will be available through the Parks and Recreation Department on selected dates.Certification is a non-paid training.
Special Requirements:Must be a minimum age of eighteen (18) to apply. Possession of a valid Class C Texas Driver's License (or the equivalent) is required. Must have automobile and be willing to travel within the city limits. Must be willing to work outdoors from June to August at various Recreation sites. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. consistently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. No paid vacations or leaves of absence are available for seasonal employees without prior approval.
Salary:$7.65/hour plus $3.44/hour car allowance
