A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE OF MS. JESSIE W. VARNADO OF GREENWOOD, AS DISTRICT MANAGER OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION AS SHE LEAVES GREENWOOD TO ASSUME A NEW POST WITH THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly with mixed feelings have learned that Ms. Jessie W. Varnado, who has served with the Social Security Administration since 1971 and since 1988 as district manager for the Social Security Administration based in Greenwood, is leaving to assume a new post with the Social Security Administration in Jackson, Mississippi; and

Whereas, her eighteen years in Greenwood heading up a tencounty area with offices in Greenwood and Aiken for the Social Security Administration have resulted in a record of achievement that is an exemplar for the high calling that is public service; and

Whereas, heading up a large staff, she has by her own hard work, led by example in administering a program that touches the lives of nearly every American and on which millions of Americans rely; and

Whereas, in addition to keeping the Greenwood and Aiken offices humming, she regularly serves as an ambassador for the Social Security Administration, making countless talks to employers, church groups, and civic clubs and organizations of all types, and representing the Social Security Administration on boards and committees, and within the Social Security Administration serving on promotion panels and assisting in recruiting; and

Whereas, Ms. Varnado, an Arkansas native and graduate of the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, where she graduated with a degree in music with minors in mathematics and education, during which time she was listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities”, lends her energy and enthusiasm to every aspect of community life, serving on boards and committees of all types, and active membership in numerous organizations; and

Whereas, there is some small consolation in that Greenwood’s loss will be Jackson’s gain and will allow her to move into even more expansive and responsible service with the Social Security Administration. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their appreciation for the distinguished public service of Ms. Jessie W. Varnado of Greenwood, as district manager of the Social Security Administration as she leaves Greenwood to assume a new post with the Social Security Administration in Jackson, Mississippi.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Jessie W. Varnado.
