A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE STRATFORD HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM OF BERKELEY COUNTY ON ITS MOST IMPRESSIVE AAAA BASEBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR HEAD COACH, JOHN CHALUS, ON AN INCREDIBLE SEASON.

Whereas, baseball is a game of speed, power, and agility as well as a game of precision, accuracy, and extreme concentration. However, to excel in baseball, a team must combine those talents with teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship; and

Whereas, Coach Chalus, his staff, and the players on the Stratford Knights Baseball Team captured the state title by utilizing a combination of all the attributes of a championship caliber baseball team; and

Whereas, the 2005 Stratford Baseball Team defeated Mauldin High School in the bottom of the seventh inning in game three of the AAAA baseball state championship; and

Whereas, down 4 to 3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Knights battled to gain men on first and second base with two outs. A base hit scored a run to tie the game, and a throwing error enabled the winning run to cross home plate and end the game; and

Whereas, the team was led by four seniors: High School All American and University of South Carolina signee Justin Smoak; Citadel signees Brett Bull, Sonny Meade, and Matt Crim; and Logan Myers. The team also included: Aaron Preston, Matt Gunther, Kyle Jordan, Nick Osterman, Brian Ragland, John Murrian, Chris Hall, Corey Wilhoit, Matt Bone, Blake Fagen, Alex Latsko, Tyler Hill, and Damon Ardis; and

Whereas, the staff under Head Coach John Chalus included: Assistant Coach Ken Lott, Jr., Assistant Coach Shane Todd, Assistant Coach David Mills, Assistant Coach Ken Lott, Sr., Trainer Mike Ryan, and Athletic Director Ray Stackley. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Stratford High School Baseball Team of Berkeley County on its most impressive AAAA state championship and honor the players and their head coach, John Chalus, on an incredible season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the players, coaches, and school officials of the Stratford High School Baseball Team.
