A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BISHOP ENGLAND HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM OF CHARLESTON ON ITS IMPRESSIVE CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHES ON ANOTHER EXTRAORDINARY SEASON.

Whereas, the Bishop England Girls Track and Field team capped their 2005 season by overcoming formidable competition to become the Class AA State Champions; and

Whereas, sheer greatness is nothing new to the girls, as they make winning look almost effortless with their poise and strength as athletes in bringing home the fifth consecutive state title; and

Whereas, the championship win and storybook 2005 season were only possible through the relentless hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and trainers; and

Whereas, maintaining a strong presence in events leading up to the state meet, the team finished in the top four in the Father Kelly Track Classic and the Outback/Azalea Invitational Meet, and went on to be crowned Meet Champions at the Patriot Game Track Meet by securing an incredible lead over all other competition and coming in first in the final 4 by 400 meter relay; and

Whereas, dominating in qualifying meets, the girls captured the Class AA 6 Region Crown and made quick work of competitors in the Lower State Qualifying Meet; and

Whereas, the team, hungry for another victory, finished strong in all events at the state meet, earning gold medals in the 4 by 800 meter relay and the high jump, and performing well in the pole vault, hurdles, and the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter running events; and

Whereas, the state title ultimately came down to the last event, the 4 by 400 meter relay, in which Bishop England placed third and sealed the championship title for the fifth year in a row; and

Whereas, these awesome athletes include Chrissy Dombrowski, Brittney Stadelman, Carrie Luhn, Sarah Stein, Jessica Cumbee, Amanda Cortes, Charlotte Coste, Jessica Quinlan, April Mollard, Krissy Kenny, Leah Burton, Hayden Knight, Molly Thayer, Riley Csernica, Ashley Tucker, Natalie Swavely, Hollen Dodds, Shannon Graham, and Shelby Carter; and

Whereas, the incredible success celebrated by the Bishop England Team is due in large part to the motivation and tireless leadership provided by Head Coaches Tony Colizzi and Mike Arney, and Assistant Coaches Laurie Borden, Katie Bus, Mike Kenny, Beth Tarkany, and Greg Yvars; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the General Assembly commend the team and coaches for the many hours of blood, sweat, and tears given in love of the sport, and wish its players all the best in future competition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Bishop England High School Girls Track and Field Team of Charleston on its impressive Class AA State Championship title and honor the players and their coaches on another extraordinary season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Bishop England High School Girls Track and Field Team.
