A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON THEIR STATE AAAA CROSS COUNTRY TITLE AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH ROBERT M. URBAN ON THEIR EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the Dorman High School “Lady Cavaliers” of Spartanburg County capped their impressive 2004 Cross Country Season by becoming the Class AAAA State Champions marking the first time in school history that a girls team has captured this title; and

Whereas, the championship win and the incredible 2004 season was possible only through the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and trainers; and

Whereas, the team got off to an amazing start, winning the preseason ASU Team Camp race in July, the first Dorman Cross Country Team to win this race; and

Whereas, the team went on to set many more school records for top finishes including: fourth place at the “Wendy’s Invitational at McAlpine Greenway” in Charlotte, North Carolina, fourth place at the Red Invitational division of the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina, and first place at the Sparkle City Invitational on their way to becoming Spartanburg County Champions for the first time in school history; and

Whereas, the team won the Region II championship for the second year in a row compiling a 50 record in regional competition and extending their twoyear streak to 100 in Region II competition; and

Whereas, the members of the 2004 varsity team are: Stephanie Buffo, Jacklyn Dejonckheere, Laura Eleazer, Taylor Harvey, Adriane Travis, Kelly Lukridge, Harrison Tiller, Katie Inclan, Melanie Cummings, and Lauren Culp; and

Whereas, the members of the 2004 junior varsity team are: Grace Dempsey, Adrienne Stephenson, Andrea Nunez, Molly Inclan, Devin Philson, Hope Hammond, Kelsey Bailey, and Katia Antonevich; and

Whereas, with the help of Head Coach Robert M. Urban, Assistant Coaches Wendy L. Barr and Jerry D. Kimbrell, and Trainer Sheila Curry, the Dorman “Lady Cavaliers” also may boast many individual honors; and

Whereas, standouts Stephanie Buffo, who won her second straight Eye Opener individual title, and Jacklyn Dejonckheere were named AllState players; and

Whereas, Stephanie Buffo, Jacklyn Dejonckheere, Taylor Harvey, Adriane Travis, and Harrison Tiller were named to the AllCounty team; and

Whereas, Stephanie Buffo, Laura Eleazer, and Jackie Dejonckheere were named to the AllRegion Team; and

Whereas, Lauren Culp and Jacklyn Dejonckheere were named to the AllAcademic Cross Country Team while Stephanie Buffo and Jacklyn Dejonckheere were named to the AllArea Cross Country Team by the Spartanburg Herald Journal; and

Whereas, Coach Urban was named Girls 4A Coach of the Year and Coach Barr was named Assistant Cross Country Coach of the Year by the S.C. Track & Cross Country Coaches Association. Coach Urban was also voted the Region II 4A CoCoach of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved, that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina congratulate the Dorman High School Girls Cross Country Team of Spartanburg County on their 2004 State AAAA Cross Country title and honor the players and Coach Robert M. Urban on their exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Robert M. Urban on behalf of the championship team.
