A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE REMARKABLE LIFE OF MR. WILLIAM D. TAYLOR, SR., OF CLINTON, ON THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF HIS NINETYTHIRD BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, Mr. William D. Taylor, Sr. was born on July 4, 1913, and will celebrate his ninetythird birthday at a gathering of his family, friends, and loved ones on July 4, 2006; and

Whereas, William D. Taylor, Sr. was born in Newberry County to the late George and Laura Darby Taylor, along with his three sisters and three brothers; and

Whereas, Mr. Taylor was married to the late Mattie Williams Taylor, and during their marriage, they became the proud and loving parents of fourteen children: Emma Lee Taylor Bates, William D. Taylor, Jr., Ruby Lee Taylor Velasco, Louise Taylor Hunter, James Ernest Taylor, Charlie Jeff Taylor, Nettie Ruth Taylor, Robert Taylor, Rita Beatrice Taylor Henderson, Uluse Lee Taylor, Geraldine Taylor Shands, Cynthia Inez Taylor Adams, Anita Elaine Taylor Thong, and one child of their marriage also died at infancy; and

Whereas, he now has twentynine grandchildren, thirtynine greatgrandchildren, and seven greatgreatgrandchildren whom he loves and cares for very much; and

Whereas, he is a member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Church in Newberry County, where he serves the Lord through praise and worship; and

Whereas, Mr. Taylor is known for his love of others, enjoyment of picking his guitar and singing, and his fondness for spending time with family and friends. He has put his time and talents to work as a much respected community icon through his ownership of Taylor’s grocery store, and was also known as the community barber; and

Whereas, Mr. Taylor retired from Presbyterian College in Clinton where he worked as a carpenter for more than thirtyfive years. He encouraged and supported higher education for all of his children and stressed to them to acquire a college education. The degrees of his children and family include: Nettie Ruth Taylor, Associate of Science Degree in Social Work; Robert Taylor, Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration; Rita Beatrice Taylor Henderson, Associate of Science Degree in Business Management, Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration; Geraldine Taylor Shands, Associate of Science Degree in Business Accounting; Cynthia Inez Taylor Adams, Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology; Anita Elaine Taylor Thong, Associate of Science Degree in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science Degree in Education; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are happy to recognize the long and fruitful life of Mr. William D. Taylor, Sr., on such a special occasion, and it is their hope that the Lord will continue to bless and keep this truly wonderful man for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly celebrate the remarkable life of Mr. William D. Taylor, Sr., of Clinton, on the joyous occasion of his ninetythird birthday and wish him many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his daughter, Rita Beatrice Taylor Henderson, on behalf of Mr. Taylor.
