2010 Scholastic Bowl Summary

PHHS won the Prairieland Conference with a 3-0 tournament record following the 8-2 regular season pool play, was third in the Peoria Area League, fourth at Galesburg, and won the PHHS Invitational. The team won the IHSA Regional with a 3-0 record but was eliminated with a 1-2 record in IHSA Sectional play with the win againstsectional champFarmington. The varsity team competed in 81 contests on 20(17IHSA) dates with a final record of 58-23. The varsity school record is 928-484 in 24 years of competition.

Team leader in toss-ups was senior Alex Tiethoffwho answered 202 (254career). SeniorBaylen Morris in his first year with the team answered 3. Senior Eric Markovich answered 156 (220 career) toss-ups while senior Kyle McDaniel answered 64 (79 career). Juniors Andy Mulholland had 28 toss-ups, Jacob Runyon 22, KeJuan Jones 18, and Cory Powers 8. Sophomore Duncan Ryan contributed 128 answerswhile freshman Jesse Lynch answered one. A 7.8 per quiz toss-up average resulted from a total of 630 answers.

Pins in lieu of second varsity letters went to senior Eric Markovich, senior Alex Tiethoff, junior Andy Mulholland, and sophomore Duncan Ryan. Varsity letters were awarded to senior Kyle McDaniel, junior KeJuan Jones, and junior Jacob Runyon. Pins for a second junior varsity letter was awarded to sophomores Jasmine Seitz (90 toss-ups and top FS scorer) and Ellynn Rolett (20). JV letterswere awarded to Cory Powers, Baylen Morris, and freshmen Gwen Clayton (15), Joey Groe (27), Jesse Lynch (63), and Jimmie Walden (17). Participation certificates were awarded to Krystal Annino (3), Kristen King (1), Amanda Markovich (3), John Moore (2), and Logan Troxel (5). Seven other students competed even answering up to eight questions but they were absent too often to receive awards.

The frosh-soph record was 17-47. The FS were 7-8 in the PAL. They answered 269 toss-ups in the 64 quizzes for a 4.2 question per quiz average. Mr. Matt Fluga was the FS coach.

Eric Markovich earned all-tournament recognition at the PORTA Tournament. Eric and Alex Tiethoffearned spots on the All-Conference Team and in the Peoria Area League. Alex, Eric, and Duncan Ryan were named to the all-sectional team. Alex, Eric, and Duncan also earned One Hundred Point Club plaques and Kyle McDaniel a Fifty Point Club plaque. The team won the IHSA Team Academic Award recognition for the ninth year in a row (3.0 average GPA). Eric, Alex, Kyle and juniors KeJuan, Andy, and Cory earned individual IHSA Academic Scholar recognition for at least a 3.5 GPA.
