A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON LEARNING OF THE DEATH OF JOSEPH EDGAR CROSLAND, JR., OF ATHENS, GEORGIA AND A NATIVE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, “Joe” Crosland, Jr., was born in Greenville to Mary Howard Crosland and Dr. Joseph Edgar Crosland on July 26, 1946; and
Whereas, a graduate of Greenville High School, Mr. Crosland went on to from Clemson University and then served his country with honor and distinction as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972; and
Whereas, an experienced manufacturer, Mr. Crosland held positions from line supervisor to Operations Manager over a twentyfive year career with Dupont; and
Whereas, after retiring from Dupont, Mr. Crosland became a Senior Consultant with Change Partners, L. L. C. and helped major manufacturing facilities in the southeast develop manufacturing concepts and Safety Excellence systems and
Whereas, as the Principal of Crosland and Associates, L. L. C., Mr. Crosland excelled in organizational consulting and took great pride in his work; but perhaps foremost were his relationships with people; he was not only a colleague and business partner, but also a true friend to his associates, and he even enjoyed brief encounters with everyone he met; and
Whereas, he was active in the Athens Community and a faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Athens; and
Whereas, one of his greatest passions in life was his unparalleled devotion to the Clemson Tigers, which he joyously shared tailgating with family and friends and enthusiastically espoused to all; whether football or baseball, win or lose, his love for the school and its athletic program never wavered; and
Whereas, Mr. Crosland and his family spent many vacations at Litchfield Beach, a favorite summer spot from his childhood and a place where Mr. Crosland enjoyed the peace and serenity of the ocean and, being an avid reader, relaxing with a good book; and
Whereas, Joe Crosland was the beloved husband of Gwendolyn Weisner Crosland, a mentor, champion, and hero of his daughter, Marlee Crosland Blakely, and two sons, Joseph Edgar Crosland, III, and Matthew Ray Crosland, a doting grandfather, the dear son of Mary Howard Crosland, and the much loved brother of Nancy Crosland Taylor and Betty Crosland; he was a loving, devoted family man who placed his family above all else. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon learning of the death of Joseph Edgar Crosland, Jr., of Athens Georgia, and a native of South Carolina, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
