A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE DOUBLE DUTCH FORCES OF COLUMBIA FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS THE NATIONAL, WORLD, AND INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS, AND TO WISH THE MEMBERS MUCH SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the sport of Double Dutch requires a great deal of concentration, athleticism, and teamwork; and

Whereas, the Double Dutch Forces of Columbia are the National and World Jump Rope Champions and have most recently been named the International Champions for 2003; and

Whereas, since their inception in 1985, the Forces have won sixtyfive World Titles, five National Titles, two Grand National Titles, five AAU Junior Olympic Titles, and one hundred eightyseven State and European Titles; and

Whereas, the Forces have appeared on ESPN, The Discovery Channel, the Jenny Jones Show, BBC Record Breakers Show, Gullah Gullah Island, Sesame Street, Sports Illustrated for Kids T.V., and in a national television commercial called “The Verb”, as well as in magazines, newspapers, and books; and

Whereas, these talented ambassadors of good will have performed in Canada and Europe and have performed at events including NBA and WNBA games, arena football games, the 1996 Olympic Games, Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey Circus, Carowinds, Disney World, and at various colleges and universities; and

Whereas, this dazzling and impressive group consists of eightyfive boys and girls ranging in age from two to twentysix and is coached by Joy Holman, Michael Peterson, and parent volunteers for the past nineteen years; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the General Assembly recognize such outstanding South Carolinians as the Double Dutch Forces for their exceptional accomplishments in Double Dutch and charge the members to be positive role models to their peers. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Double Dutch Forces of Columbia for their outstanding accomplishments as the National, World, and International Champions, and to wish the members much success in their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Double Dutch Forces of Columbia.
