[503-1]

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA PORTS AUTHORITY BOARD FOR ITS DILIGENT EFFORTS IN WORKING WITH THE CITY OF NORTH CHARLESTON AND THE CHARLESTON NAVAL BASE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY TO SECURE A LOCATION FOR A NEW MARINE CARGO TERMINAL ON THE FORMER CHARLESTON NAVAL BASE AND TO ENCOURAGE THE EXPEDITIOUS ISSUANCE OF THE NECESSARY PERMITS FOR THAT FACILITY.

Whereas, the South Carolina State Ports Authority Board, acting at the direction of the South Carolina General Assembly, has worked diligently with the City of North Charleston and the Charleston Naval Base Redevelopment Authority in an effort to locate a new marine cargo terminal on the site of the former Charleston Naval Base and is to be commended for these efforts; and

Whereas, the South Carolina State Ports Authority Board as a result of these efforts has determined that the southern end of the former Charleston Naval Base offers the largest amount of land and capacity, is the most accessible by land and water, and appears to result in the least amount of environmental impact as a result of terminal construction; and

Whereas, the Charleston County Legislative Delegation Port Ad Hoc Committee, the Charleston County Legislative Delegation, and the South Carolina General Assembly support the expeditious permitting and issuance of all necessary permits to the State Ports Authority in an effort to construct a marine cargo terminal on those properties at the southern end of the former Charleston Naval Base. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend the South Carolina Ports Authority Board for its diligent efforts in working with the City of North Charleston and the Charleston Naval Base Redevelopment Authority to secure a location for a new marine cargo terminal on the former Charleston Naval Base and to encourage the expeditious issuance of the necessary permits for the facility.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Ports Authority Board.
