A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE MEMBERS OF THE 2003 CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL “EAGLES” FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH JOEY MANGUM AND HIS STAFF FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN IN THE CLASS AA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to become a champion in football, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and
Whereas, the Central High School “Eagles” of Chesterfield County capped their thrilling 2003 football season by taking the Class AA State title in a 4020 victory over BatesburgLeesville High School in a resounding victory at WilliamsBrice Stadium in Columbia; and
Whereas, the overwhelming victory was a real team effort with Sadat Chambers and Justin McManus leading the team with 284 combined rushing yards and quarterback Trent Usher’s three touchdown passes that gave the “Eagles” a commanding lead; and
Whereas, Trent Usher’s 19yard touchdown pass to Ray Davis with thirtytwo seconds remaining in the first half sent the Central High team into halftime with a 216 lead which they would not relinquish in the second half; and
Whereas, under the guidance and wisdom of Head Coach Joey Mangum, the Central High School “Eagles” proved that the win was a result of the players love for one another and was a reflection of their commitment to the game of football and to one another; and
Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 2003 Central Football Team that accumulated 19 wins and a state championship title has brought pride to not only Central High School, its administration, staff, alumni, students, and loyal fans, but also the members of Chesterfield County. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the members of the 2003 Central High School “Eagles” Football Team and Head Coach Joey Mangum and his staff for their outstanding championship win in the Class AA State Football Championship Competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the 2003 Central High School Football Team and Head Coach Joey Mangum.
