Wheelchair Basketball State Championships

“THE CLASSICS”

The Sports Centre, Boondall

Saturday 4 – Monday 6June 2016

The 2016Wheelchair Basketball State Championships will once again be hosted and subsidised by Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association. The event will be held on the weekend from 4 - 6June 2016 and hopes to attract players from Australia and overseas. Note this is no longer a long weekend (Public Holiday) therefore the venue has altered availability. If required local SE Qld based teams may be scheduled to play on the Friday night 3 June. This will be used as a last resort and will be dependent upon the amount of teams registering in 2016.

THE EVENT

“The Classics” are the Queensland State Championships for wheelchair basketball. The Championships are open to players from throughout Australia and overseas who play at a novice through to elite level.

In 2016 we will conduct two-divisions: Agrade and Bgrade. Please be aware that you are to nominate your own division, however the technical committee reserves the right (if needed) to reselect your division in accordance with your skill level in comparison to the other nominated teams.

The competition will be played using a 5-on-5 format with 4 x 10minute quarters, running clock. We will play under full shot-clock for grand final matches.

A maximum of 2 able-bodied players is permitted per team, with only one able-bodied player on court per team at a time.

The A Grade competition will be run with a maximum of 16 points on court at one time. Junior players under the age of 18 at the time of the championships may apply for a 1 point reduction.

The B Grade competition will be run without a maximum classification points rule, however the B Grade competition will enforce a “No Zone Defence’ rule to improve game quality and development of players in this division.
