A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MRS. RHONDA LUCAS WOODS FOR HER DEDICATION AS A SOUTH CAROLINA WIFE, MOTHER, AND GRANDMOTHER, TO THANK HER FOR HER WORK IN NUMEROUS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER ON BEING CHOSEN MRS. SOUTH CAROLINA AMERICA 2000.

Whereas, Rhonda Lucas Woods won the title of “Mrs. South Carolina America 2000” on Saturday, May 20 and also won awards for community service, best costume, and congeniality in the state competition; and

Whereas, Mrs. Woods competed in the nationally televised Mrs. America Pageant in Hawaii on September 1, 2000, which involved a personal interview, state costume, swimsuit, and evening gown competition; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rhonda Woods has served her community well through such activities as the Pelion Women’s Club, the “Just Say No” and D.A.R.E. organizations, her School Improvement Council, School Safety Council, and the S.C. Peanut Party Festival, and has participated in benefit walks including the Lake Murray Dam Walk and the Relay for Life; and

Whereas, Rhonda Lucas Woods organized the Hall Walkers Club at Pelion Elementary School to encourage good health and exercise following her husband’s heart surgery in 1998, and she works to inform others about the dangers and deterrents of heart disease through her platform of “The Healthy, Happy Heart;” and

Whereas, Mrs. Rhonda Woods is the owner of Panther Place Child Care in Pelion and is a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, and she talks often about the importance of teaching children good moral character, respect, and family values; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rhonda Lucas Woods resides in Pelion with her husband Danny and two children Kimberly and Branden, and is the stepmother of Cade Woods of Swansea and also the grandmother of three-yearold Colby Woods, and Rhonda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin D. Lucas of West Columbia and sister of Mr. Jimmy D. Lucas of Gilbert, Mrs. Brenda Blackstone of Lexington, Ms. Karen Laffody of West Columbia, and Mrs. Renee Howell of Pelion. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Mrs. Rhonda Lucas Woods for her dedication as a South Carolina wife, mother, and grandmother, thank her for her work in numerous community service projects, and congratulate her on being chosen Mrs. South Carolina America 2000.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Rhonda Lucas Woods of Pelion.
