Job Description – Support Office Accountant /
Role: / Support Office Accountant
Description: / To pay all sundry suppliers and optimally invest excess funds of the company. To administer financial information relating to dedicated stores.

  • Minimum; NQF 6
  • 2 years experience in a similar position
  • Experience within the retail industry
  • Strong attention to detail

Key Performance Area / Description
Profit & Loss Analysis /
  • Monthly review and actioning of correct expenses allocation.
  • Review and monitor journals processed to the support office cost centres

Bank statements and journals upload /
  • Review and posting of the following journals:
  • Monthly recurring journals
  • Monthly accruals journal
  • Advertising journal
  • Any additional changes as the business requires

Sundry Accrual and recurring journals /
  • Review and posting of the following journals:
  • Review on all support office Cost centers on expenses not accounted
  • Payments made in next month when due
  • Goods/Service received but not paid

Annual Budget /
  • Review of the following journals:
  • Cost centre Managers file
  • Run the process for support office cost centers

All accounts reconciled /
  • Ensure all accounts under Departments' control are reconciled monthly (for all support office cost centers)
  • Any reconciling items are cleared regularly (for all support office cost centers)
  • Review monthly file prior to pre-release (for all support office cost centers)

Preparation of monthly VAT return /
  • Prepare monthly VAT returns
  • All VAT returns to be submitted by the due date
  • GL reconciliation to be completed
  • SAP process for returns understood and applied for converted stores

Management reports /
  • Monthly support office results produced
  • Ensure departmental head review
  • Ensure feedback received from department heads

Manage the archive process /
  • Ensure all document warehouse documents are archived timeously with appropriate index sheets

Treasury maintenance /
  • All signatories, releasers and bank accounts to be kept up to date to meet the business' requirements
  • Maintain releasers/verifiers on banking system

Competent and motivated Employees /
  • Performance Appraisal implemented and supported
  • Regular meetings held
  • Succession plans in place (you and direct subordinates)
  • Regular meetings with staff
  • On the job training and assistance
