2.What is thePurpose of Best Bar None Scheme?

  • Reducing alcohol-related crime and disorder
  • Building positive relationships between the licensed trade, police, local authorities and other agencies
  • Positively promoting the responsible consumption of alcohol
  • Improving knowledge and skills of enforcement and regulation agencies, licensees and bar staff to help them responsibly manage licensed premises

3.Why should we evaluate our Best Bar None Scheme?

Evaluating the BBN is important to ascertain if the objectives of the BBN scheme are being achieved. Additionally, the evaluation will enable the BBN scheme co-ordinatorto:

  • support the continuation of the BBN scheme for years to come
  • improve the effectiveness/efficiency of the BBN scheme; based on lessons learnt
  • understand the positive impact of the BBN scheme on your local area
  • assist you to communicate with key stakeholders
  • share best practice with other BBN schemes locally and nationally.

4.What are the Best Bar None Evaluation Toolkits?

The Best Bar None Evaluation Toolkit was designed to measure the effectiveness of its local schemes aimed to tackle alcohol-related harms. The toolkit provides an evaluation framework, guidance on best practice regarding data collection for baseline measurement and Year-On-Year data collection. The data collected will be a combination of crime and disorder police data, licensee’s surveys and qualitative discussions with both key stakeholders and licensees.

The toolkit has been developed in partnership with Leeds Beckett University and contains twoparts;

  • Appendix 1:Baseline Evaluation Toolkit
  • Appendix 2:Year-On-Year EvaluationToolkit
