ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP

MINUTES

A regular meeting of the Ishpeming Township Board was held on Tuesday February 9, 2016 at 6:00 P.M.

1. Roll Call: Present - Supervisor James Nankervis, Clerk Cory Beth Grigg, Treasurer Kristin Thornton, Trustee Ruben Champion, Trustee Robert Saxwold.

2. Salute to Flag: The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

3. Approval of Agenda: Motion by: Treasurer Thornton Support by: Trustee Saxwold and passed to approve the agenda with addition to 11. I. Acct balance/Rev exp report. J. Poverty ExemptionResolution wording K. Appoint Fire Chief

4. Dispense Reading of Minutes: Motion by: Treasurer Thornton Support by: Clerk Grigg and passed to dispense with the reading of last month's minutes as published. All Ayes. Motion Carried.

5. Reading of Expenditures: Motion by: Trustee Champion Support by: Trustee Saxwold passed to accept the bills and order them paid. Roll Call Vote: Grigg - Aye, Saxwold - Aye, Champion - Aye, Nankervis - Aye, Thornton - Aye, All Ayes. Motion Carried.

8. Communications:

A. Motion by: Trustee Saxwold Support by: Trustee Champion to assist Sands Township for legal fees (max $100) as submitted

In letter regarding Marquette County Landfill. All Ayes, Motion Carried.

B. Information from Marquette County Landfill tipping fee will be going up in the future

10. Supervisor's Comments: See Attached

11. Unfinished Business:

A. Board tabled countertops until more information is received to consider more office renovations

B. The individuals in the area with the marijuana have agreed to put in charcoal filters to help eliminate odor,

Officer O’Connor has been in contact with individuals and they appear to be within guidelines of medical growing

C. Motion by: Clerk Grigg Support by: Trustee Saxwold to accept the amendment as stated by Clerk Grigg for

the Recreation Plan to meet with CUPPAD and DNR specifications. All Ayes, Motion Carried.: I, Cory Beth Grigg, make a motion to amend the minutes from the October 13,2015 meeting to reflect the public hearing that was held before the regular Board Meeting on October 13. There was no one present at the Public Hearing other than the Board Members, and there were no comments made. During the regular board meeting Karen Ostlund asked about the Recreation Plan and had questions regarding where funds came from to support the Recreation Areas. Her question was answered by the Board.

12. New Business:

  1. Motion by: Trustee Saxwold Support by: Treasurer Thornton to approve the proposal for bid specs and inspection, painting 800,000 gallon water tank from Dixon Engineeringon the water tank. All Ayes, Motion Carried.
  2. Motion by: Treasurer Thornton Support by: Trustee Saxwold to sign the contract as submitted by Marquette County Road Commission for Dust control.All Ayes, Motion Carried.
  3. Motion by: Trustee Saxwold Support by: Treasurer Thornton to get quotes on Crack and Chip Seal the roads as

listed on proposed roads for 2016 All Ayes, Motion Carried.

  1. Motion by: Trustee Champion Support by: Treasurer Thornton to adopt the resolution for Township board and

employee wages. Fire Department wages need further review. Roll call vote: Champion-Aye, Thornton-Aye, Nankervis-Aye, Saxwold-Aye, Grigg-Aye, all AyesMotion Carried.

  1. Tom Prophet inquired with Jim why there are so many Fire Departments within a close proximity and if there is a way to eliminate this, Supervisor Nankervis suggested the Supervisors for these townships meet and discuss this.
  2. Fire Dept had the boots on 2151 pumper truck replaced to meet DOT standards, extrication tools need some replacement hydraulic fittings
  3. Request from a dog groomer to hold a dog obedience class at the Township Hall. Non-Resident

rates would apply. More information to be obtained on length of class, etc.

  1. Account Balance Report/Revenue Expense Report in board packets
  2. Motion by: Treasurer Thornton Support by: Trustee Saxwoldto pass the resolution on rates on Poverty exemption Resolution verbageand to authorize the hours for the Organizational and Petitioner Board of Review meetings to be held as submitted by the accessor. Roll call vote: Thornton-Aye, Saxwold-Aye, Champion-Aye, Nankervis-Aye, Grigg-Aye. All Ayes, Motion Carried.
  3. Motion by: Trustee Saxwold Support by: Clerk Grigg to accept the Fire Department recommendation for Earl Mann to continue as Chief of the fire department for the 4 year term. All Ayes, Motion Carried.

13. Board Comments: Treasurer Thornton has started the Christmas gift shopping for Senior Christmas party. Clerk

Grigg is ready to order a slide for the Recreation area.

14. Public Comment: Bryan Johnson says the recycle bins at transfer station are a great idea

15.Adjournment: Motion by: Treasurer Thornton Support by: Clerk Grigg and passed to adjourn. Ayes-5 No’s- 0 All Ayes. Time: 7:11 p.m.
