1st Period College Bound Course Outline * 2016-17

College Bound * Weeks of August 11-12, 15-19, 22-26, Aug. 29-Sept. 2, 5-9, 12-16, 19-23, AND 26-30, 2016

College Bound is divided into two sections: An A (Alpha) Class and a B (Beta) Class. However because the two sections are so small they are being combined and will meet on an A-B schedule with Honors Economics taught by Mr. Carpenter.

The following schedule is subject to change depending on when Guest Speakers are available.

Unit #1 * Choosing a College and starting the application process *

What is the best choice for you?

August 11-12 Both Sections in College Bound

Thursday (11th): Introduction to College Bound Class; Receive Course Outline to take home to be signed and returned. Have students answer Questions about Goals and Plans for this year and for 5 years from now. Get Course Information signed by Thursday, August 18

Assign: Get course info signed and get a portfolio; bring old Resume’

Friday (12th): Lecture–What to consider when choosing a College. Hand out College Profiles

Monday (15th ): Both sections meet with Mr. Carpenter for Intro to Economics

Tuesday (16th ): Go over Resume’ samples and work on updating Resume’s with recent awards, etc. Then go to the Computer Lab Newly updated Resume due on Monday, August 22. College Profiles due on August 30

Wednesday (17th): Both sections meet with Mr. Carpenter for Economics

Thursday (18th): Both Sections meet with Mrs Fuller–Work on College Profiles in Computer Lab

Friday (19th): Both sections meet with Mr. Carpenter for Economics

Monday (22nd ): College Bound–Computer Lab to work on College Profiles; Resume’ Due

Tuesday (23rd ): Honors Economics

Wednesday (24th): College Bound–Go over the Common App components; Use the Chrome Books in Room 207

Thursday (25th ): Honors Economics

Friday (26th): College Bound–Use Chrome Books to work on Profiles and begin applications.

Monday (29th): Honors Economics

Tuesday (30th): College Bound–College Profiles Due. Go over the College Profiles and look at the different college costs. What is the best choice for you?

Wednesday (31st): Honors Economics

Thursday (September 1st): College Bound–The application essay; Typical topics and how to answer them.

Friday (September 2nd): Honors Economics

Monday (5th): No School - Labor Day - Why not visit a college over this long weekend?

Tuesday (6th ): College Bound--Work on applications with the Notebooks. Give out Who am I? Project

Wednesday (7th): Honors Economics

Thursday (8th): College Bound–Review the entire application and what needs to be included

Friday (9th): Honors Economics

Unit #2 * Completing the First Application

Monday (12th): College Bound–work in the Computer Lab on #1 Application; First College and Scholarship Applications are Due September 30

Tuesday (13th): Honors Economics

Wednesday (14th): College Bound–work in Computer Lab

Thursday (15th): Honors Economics

Friday (16th): College Bound–Guest Speaker: Tammy Zumbrun from TVFCU

Monday (19th): Honors Economics
