1LT James Taylor- OER and Award background information

He is currently serving as a Treatment Platoon Leader in a Brigade Support Medical Company of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th ID.

2/25 Stryker Brigade Combat Team recently completed a very successful National Training Center deployment and preparing to deploy to Iraq. LT Taylor just received curtailment orders to fill a high priority shortage in a different duty location and will be PCSing in 3 weeks.

OBJECTIVE: You will submit a DA 638 on his performance while serving at this duty station as a Treatment Platoon Leader. Additionally, you will need to write an annual OER that covers his past year’s pre-deployment training and NTC rotation.

Pre-NTC train up

-1LT Taylor had all 20 medics in his platoon recertify on EMT-B National Registry.

-With assistance from his fellow platoon leaders, LT Taylor developed a pre-deployment program that trained his platoon on all METL collective tasks. His platoon was rated a “P” on 3 of the tasks, and “T” on 3 of the tasks by an external evaluation. There were no “U” ratings.

-1LT Taylor’s platoon has one small safety incident during a range, where a Soldier ran his tactical vehicle into a tree. There was $100 in damage to the vehicle, and LT Taylor counseled the Soldier and developed a corrective training plan for the Soldier and his supervisor.

-1LT Taylor’s platoon supported the entire Brigade with pre-deployment immunization plan that served 5 Battalions and 5 separate companies with over 9,000 immunizations.

-1LT Taylor’s platoon had the best PT score in the company (278).

-1LT Taylor had the opportunity to brief the Brigade Commander on the battalion’s treatment mission for NTC.

-1LT Taylor’s platoon and their families contributed greatly to FRG events, raising over $500 for FRG funds.

-1LT Taylor worked hard to read FMs that his commander gave him and learned the basic doctrine of a BSB in a Stryker Brigade.

-1LT Taylor conducted one OPD before NTC on FM 5-0 for his company’s officers.

-1LT Taylor generally did a good job in counseling his platoon’s leaders, but missed a couple sessions and forgot to put some of them in writing.

-1LT Taylor overslept 3 separate morning PT formations and was counseled by his company commander for being irresponsible.

NTC performance

-1LT Taylor deployed his Treatment platoon to the National Training Center (14 vehicles, 32 people, and 42 LINs of equipment).

-1LT Taylor’s platoon conducted medical coverage for RSO/I operations at theport of San Diego.

-1LT Taylor’s platoon was responsible for treating over 700 simulated casualties and 30 real world casualties during the rotation.

-1LT Taylor’s platoon was very adept at EMT and triage skills, but did not generally perform well at ancillary services of lab, X-Ray, and dental services. LT Taylor attributes it to not understanding how to train his low-density MOSs Soldiers well.

-Treatment platoon Soldiers were tasked for part of the time to conduct simulated medical exams on detainees brought to the Brigade’s detainee holding area. LT Taylor had to improvise and create a standard for detainee physical exams because nobody gave him any guidance.

-1LT Taylor was eager to learn new jobs at NTC, and was given 3 nights of TOC / Battle Captain duty when another Captain was temporarily sick. LT Taylor performed well and learned a lot about radio communications.

-LT Taylor redeployed his platoon flawlessly and was the first platoon to conduct Unit Movement Duties (creating a UDLand placing RFID tags) to standard in the company.
