Since 1994, under her leadership, New Jersey Network has set new records for professional recognition of its original programming and increased viewership and community support. In 2001, she received the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice/New Jersey Chapter. In 1990, Leadership America, limited to 100 highly qualified women nationwide, selected her for membership and subsequently elected her president.

George Cole, President, ALTANA Pharma U.S.

A corporate entrepreneur, he is president of ALTANA Pharma’s U.S. operations and responsible for the company’s strategic development activities in the U.S. Coleoversees all operations of the company with divisions in the ethical and generic markets. He also laid the groundwork to enhance the company’s research-driven marketing capability in the U.S. He has held positions at Searle, Adria and Bristol-Myers.

Caren Franzini, CEO, New Jersey Economic Development Authority

As CEO of the New Jersey EDA, she has arranged more than $382 million in financings that support public-private investments of $560 million. She joined the Authority in 1991 and was named CEO in 1994. During her tenure, the EDA has focused on assisting business and nonprofits, revitalizing communities through technical and financial assistance and promoting entrepreneurial development.

Jerry Gottesman, Chairman, Edison Properties

A founder of Edison Properties, he now actively leads the family business in strategic planning, in real estate acquisition and for the transitionto the next generationof the family business. In 1956, he and his brother founded Edison Park Fast through which he has developed a national reputation as a leader in the parking industry. In addition, in 1978, he founded Manhattan Mini Storage, which operates 14 buildings comprising 2,000,000 square feet in Manhattan.

John Martinson, Managing Partner, Edison Venture Fund

Co-founder and former chairman of the New Jersey Technology Council (NJTC), he has led more than 150 equity financings within his 30 years of venture capital experience. In 1986, Martinson established the Edison Venture Fund, and the fund has financed more companies in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia than any other private equity firm. As founder and managing partner, he shapes Edison’s overall investment strategy.

George Taber, Founder and President, NJBIZ

As founder of NJBIZ, Taber edits the GardenState’s only state-wide newspaper entirely devoted to business. The paper is published weekly and was started in 1988. He was formerly the business editor of Timemagazine. NJBIZ has won more than two dozen national and regional awards for editorial excellence. The company also distributes information through books, itsweb site and other media.

1990 Institute inaugurates program of seminars/workshops for business and entrepreneurial communities.

1990Business plan development program initiated with MBA course, New Venture Creation & Financing

1990Concentration in entrepreneurial studies introduced on graduate and undergraduate levels.

1992Family Business Forum established to educate and assist family businesses.

1993Institute and co-sponsors hold annual Family Business of the Year Awards to honor state’s family firms.

1994Institute begins to offer Continuing Education courses for adult students.

1994-95Success magazine names Institute and FDUamong the country’s top entrepreneurshipprograms.

1994-96Graduate MBA major and Post-MBA Certificate in entrepreneurial studies introduced.

1997Undergraduate major in entrepreneurial studies introduced.

1997FDU ranked in Journal of Management among top 20 universities publishing entrepreneurship research.

1997New Jersey Trade Development Corporation, an independent study project by FDU graduate

students, receives certification by the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission.

1998Institute receives aColeman Foundation grant to develop the Certificate in Business program.

1998Annual Business Plan competition inaugurated for undergraduate and graduate students.

1998New Jersey Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards program established in conjunction with St. Louis

University’s North American Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards program.

1999Inaugural Richard M. Clarke Distinguished Entrepreneurial Lecture delivered by Russ Berrie, founder,

chairman and chief executive officer of Russ Berrie and Company, Inc.

2000Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards program expands to include New York, Connecticut and Delaware in addition to New Jersey and is renamed East Coast Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards.

2001Institute launches Female Entrepreneurs Networking Group to support women business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Renamed the Female Entrepreneurs’ Alliance in 2003.

2002Institute recognized as a top program by Successmagazine.

2003Institute recognized as a top program by Entrepreneurmagazine. Entrepreneurial Society founded at FDU.

2003Discover Business Teen Camp launched during the summer on the College at Florham Campus.

2003New Jersey Business Idea Competition launched to recognize innovative high school students statewide.

2004Inaugural New Jersey Female Entrepreneur Lecture presented.

2004Institute recognized as a top program by Entrepreneurmagazine for second year. It also was ranked sixth by other program directors and faculty nationwide and eighth when ranked by FDU alumni.

2004Institute faculty develop two New Jersey polls:‘Consumer Confidence’ and ‘State of Entrepreneurship’.

Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies

FairleighDickinsonUniversity’s Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies has been supporting entrepreneurship since 1989. Its nationally recognized academic program includes a comprehensive curriculum on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Outreach programs include the Family Business Forum, the Female Entrepreneurs’ Allianceand the Business Plan Development program. Recognition programs include the Distinguished Entrepreneurial Lecture Series, the Family Business of the Year Awards, the New Jersey Female Entrepreneur Lecture and the East Coast Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards program. In addition, the Institute coordinates the Discover Business Teen Camp and the New Jersey Business Idea Competition, open to high school students.
