Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992;

Gas Regulations 1993.

3All work practices must comply with regulations and codes of practice pertaining to the gas industry.

4Definition

Company procedures means the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Works include notifiable works.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Identify and locate third party works in the vicinity of a gas network.

Evidence requirements

1.1The purpose of inspecting works in the vicinity of a gas network is described in terms of company procedures.

1.2Work types around gas network systems are identified in accordance with location and company procedures.

Rangeincludes such types as – excavation, directional drilling, roading, planting, seismic survey, construction, heavy haulage.

1.3Inspection requirements are identified in accordance with company procedures.

Rangemay include – plans, works authorisation, permit, safety controls.

1.4Pipelines near third party works are located and marked in accordance with company procedures.

Rangeplans, pipe and cable locators, surveys.

Outcome 2

Inspect and advise on works in the vicinity of a gas network.

Evidence requirements

2.1Works are inspected for encroachment on gas networks in accordance with company procedures and codes of practice.

2.2Actions to ensure the safety of network, plant, and public are identified, reported, and recorded in accordance with company safety procedures.

2.3Advice is given and recorded on works in the vicinity of a gas network in accordance with company procedures.
