6Definitions

Company procedures means the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Company requirements may influence what equipment and procedures are used for a particular job; for example, service level agreements, financial requirements, technical requirements, regulatory requirements, safety requirements, information requirements.

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Locate and identify procedures, documentation, and equipment for testing a gas meter using a transfer prover.

Performance criteria

1.1Company procedures for testing a gas meter using a transfer prover are located and interpreted in relation to specified job requirements.

RangeNZS 5259, Test Method Manual, IANZ requirements, manufacturer’s operating manual.

1.2Potential environmental and safety hazards are identified in accordance with company procedures.

1.3Test equipment, components, and materials are identified and described in terms of type and function.

Rangeequipment may include but is not limited to – transfer prover, reference meter, master meter, test meter, labels, external leak test, rating caps, test certificates, tools, fittings, seals;

function may include but is not limited to – pressure, capacity, flow, leakage, conversion.

1.4Equipment is described in terms of potential hazards of incorrect application and operation, and the steps to avoid them are described in accordance with company procedures.

1.5Resource requirements are identified and sourced in accordance with company procedures.

Outcome 2

Prepare to and test gas meters using a transfer prover.

Performance criteria

2.1Gas meter details are checked prior to test.

Rangesoundness, conditioning, badge plate, seals, dials, make and model, serial number, index reading, metric or imperial, year of manufacture.

2.2Transfer prover is checked prior to test.

Rangeconnections, leaks, room temperature, zero, calibration labels, rating caps, valves, filter, flanges.

2.3Tests are performed in accordance with manufacturer’s and company procedures.

Rangereference meter, labelling, external leakage, accuracy of registration, sealing.

2.4Test equipment is used in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.

Outcome 3

Complete reporting and documentation for testing gas meters.

Performance criteria

3.1Test results are recorded in accordance with company procedures.

Rangereport number, capacity, flow rate, leakage, accuracy, date, person conducting test, person certifying test.

3.2Information is communicated to other parties, both internal and external, in accordance with company requirements.

Rangetest certificates, currency certification, recommendations, identification tags, labels, customers and clients.
