6. Introduction & Purpose of IPS-18

The International Conference on Photochemical Conversion and Storage of Solar Energy (IPS) is a biannual conference which has been held worldwide through the past few decades, and the 18th IPS will be held from July 25th to 30th, 2010 in Seoul, Korea. The conference has been recognized as an important platform for exchanging technological dialogue and information/knowledge primarily on the conversion and storage of solar energy, as well as sharing discussion on the world’s greatest environmental challenge; global warming.

Today, the world is facing a lack of fossil fuel and every nation is eager to research and develop alternative energy. In Korea, especially the country which natural resources are almost nonexistent, it is crucial to invest in the development of clean energy resources. Unfortunately, however, governmental support and corporate R&D in search of alternative energy are still insufficient in comparison to other OECD countries.

IPS-18 is an international conference for the development of photochemical conversion and storage of solar energy that meets the demand of current issue on the development of clean energy resources. At IPS-18, participants will catch up on cutting-edge courses of solar energy storage, share valuable technological information, and form an international research network. All of these activities will be the base for the enhancement of scientific level and especially the advancement of domestic industries of the related fields. Eventually, this conference will set the tone for the many fields in solar energy science and propel Korea towards success in the research and development of resources of alternative energies.
