1800s Reformer Social Media Project

Overview: Students picked a prominent reformer of the mid to 1800s. These reformers helped to shape our society in many different ways! They are going to create a social media account for their chosen reformer. On Tuesday 11/25 we will have a gallery walk within the classroom so students can take notes on all the reformers.

This will count as a test grade, and there will be no written test.

Expectations:

  • Students are to use the time given to them in class wisely to do research on their person
  • Students should bring pictures and any supplies they feel they will need.
  • Ms. Turner has some supplies but if you could bring/donate poster boards, scissors and markers it would be greatly appreciated.
  • Students should be able to complete their work in class. But Ms. Turner will also be available after school on Thursday, Friday and Monday.
  • The work should be completed by the start of class on Tuesday. We will hang the posters up in categories:
  • Education Reform
  • Women’s Rights
  • Healthcare Reform
  • Utopian Society
  • Students are expected to fill out a graphic organizer provided by Ms. Turner. This will be turned in.

Guidelines:

  • Create a social media account (twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr) for your specific reformer.
  • This should be done on a poster board
  • Think about who would interact with them (other reformers, groups of people)
  • Be historically accurate
  • Anyone should be able to look at your social media site and be able to grasp the important aspects of your reformer.

Requirements:

  • At least one picture of your chosen reformer
  • Biographical information – date of birth, date of death, education, job, relationship status
  • At least 10 posts/ tweets with historically correct information.
  • Any picture posted has a 2-3 sentence description or explanation
  • At least 2 friends/followers from the same time period that they would have known (you can have them interact with your reformer)
  • At least 2 contributions to the 1800s which impacted society as a whole.
  • Two goals of the reform movement, and discuss whether it was successful.
