Notification to stakeholders after transition.

Successful transition into operations:

To Aviation Users

Notam: Successful transition of FPDS into operation at 03.00.

FPL in NEW and PRESENT format will be accepted.

No restriction will be required.

To Media (Al Jezeera, CNN, radio services, Newspapers.)

In the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 4th May) the Air traffic control Centre in Cairo successfully brought into operation an upgraded flight planning system to enable Air Traffic Controllers to provide aircraft with more efficient flight routes.

This improvement in the air traffic service will allow savings in fuel, some reduction in travelling time and overall contribute to the reduction in aircraft emissions effecting the environment.

This change is the first step in the Global Air navigation Plan(GANP) which over the next few years will significantly improve aviation efficiency.

Failed transition:

Notam: Unsuccessful attempt to transition FPPS into service 03.00

PRESENT FPL will continue to be accepted.

NEW FPL will be rejected.

No additional delays expected

To Media (Al Jezeera, CNN, radio services, Newspapers.)

In the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 4th May) the Air traffic control Centre in Cairo planned to introduce into operation an upgraded flight planning system which would enable Air Traffic Controllers to provide aircraft with more efficient flight routes.

Unfortunately however the transition into service was unsuccessful and the introduction into operational service of this upgrade will be rescheduled subject to a review of last night’s activities.

As soon as issues were detected the system was immediately restored to normal operation and at no time were there any safety implications or risk to aircraft and the travelling public.

Note: This improvement in the air traffic service will allow savings in fuel, some reduction in travelling time and overall contribute to the reduction in aircraft emissions effecting the environment.

This change is the first step in the Global Air navigation Plan (GANP) which over the next few years will significantly improve aviation efficiency.

Partially successful transition:

Notam: Transition of FPPS into service 03.00.

The upgrade is not fully functional at this time.

PRESENT FPL will continue to be accepted.

NEW FPL will be accepted subject to some manual intervention

Delays expected to account for 20% reduction in flow until further notice.

Unfortunately however the transition into service was not fully successful and the introduction of this upgrade will be the subject of a review of last night’s activities with the intention of improving the service to airlines at the earliest opportunity.

Although the system is not fully functional at this time there are no safety implications or risk to aircraft and the travelling public.

Some short delays to aircraft might occur until the issues are resolved
