Schedule A – Position Description

Position Title:Advocate

Reports to:Operations Manager

General

Seasonal Solutions is a grower based Cooperative providing temporary and permanent workers to the horticulture and viticulture industry in New Zealand. This source of labour comes from Kiwi job seekers, backpackers and workers under the Government’s Recognised Seasonal Employment (RSE) scheme. Seasonal Solutions has been in operation since 2004 in Otago, 2006 in Marlborough and 2014 in Canterbury.

Purpose

To help ensure that the physical and mental wellbeing of RSE workers are protected during their stay in NZ. To provide pastoral care which encourages health and safety both at work and outside work hours. To assist SSCO administration and shareholders to ensure that men function as independently as possible during their time in NZ. To help men gain maximum benefit from their employment here. To assist in the preparation and completion all aspects of arrivals and departures to ensure they run as efficiently as possible.

Duties:

Pastoral Care

  • Carry out initial briefing/inductions for groups as they arrive to ensure that SSCO expectations of workers are clearly understood and that any questions or concerns are addressed.
  • Visit the groups assigned to you on a weekly basis and address any pastoral needs.
  • Attend Chiefs and worker meetings as required.
  • Facilitate attendance at Church services, sporting and other recreational activities when requested
  • Facilitate medical and dental appointments. Accompany workers to appointments where appropriate/required.
  • Provide assistance with the purchase of food and overall nutrition
  • Liaison between workers, SSCO Management and growers to manage any personal issues that may affect the workers stay in New Zealand
  • Report inappropriate behaviour or any other issues such as work performance, health, accommodation issues and accidents to SSCO Management in a timely manner.
  • Oversee or coordinate bank visits for workerson arrival and departure.
  • From time to time assist with arranging driver training.
  • Provide general assistance and support to workers to help ensure that their experience in NZ is a positive one.

RSE Operations Administration

Timely completion of all matters relating to the efficient functioning of SSCO’s of RSE Employment responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Operations Manager to coordinate the arrival and departure of workers
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager or Administration Manager to ensure all paperwork required for statutory reasons is signed and filed for the workers.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to ensure accommodation is readyfor arriving workers.
  • Monitor and observe accommodation standards to ensure providers maintain appropriate standards and that the workers meet their obligations in terms of hygiene, cleanliness and tidiness
  • Assistthe Operations Manager with workers movements throughout the region and the country.
  • Complete timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Complete travel, telephone and expense claims for approval.

Relationship Management

Maintain and enhance the following key relationships:

  • Accommodation providers
  • Other Seasonal Solutions staff including Managers and other Advocates
  • Local bank staff and providers of Western Union services
  • Local providers of primary medical and dental care
  • Training organisations
  • Other service providers such as Johnstons/GoBus

Other Information

  • This role will be home based.
  • The Advocate will, at all times, endeavor to ensure that Seasonal Solutions maintains a positive profile within the communities in which it is active.
  • The duties are not limited to those listed and may involve other duties from time to time.
  • The Employer will consult with you should the purpose and duties in this position description require changing.
