1998 - 2004

Crane Enfield Metals

Penrith, NSW

Plant Electrical Engineer

De-commissioned 450 Hp Westinghouse variable speed drive system and replaced with digitally controlled reliance DC drive.

Automated high speed machine control withmaterial position sensing using linear camera sensor. Position sensing provides an infeed system speed feedback loop to otherwise manually controlled machinery.

Implemented high speed servo control systems based on Allen Bradley SLC500 and PLC5 platforms. Projects included hydraulic travel shear control, upgrade of DC motor based ball screw cut to length carriage control with AC spindle motor speed control and outer position control loop, Re-wrote triple draw cascade PLC5 program to make a highly automated non functioning German machine operate as intended, Data Highway Plus networking PLC systems to integrate and fully automate several machines and processes.

Analysis and post commissioning optimization of PVC copper tube lagging extrusion machine to improve reliability and machine throuput.

Designed and built automated ultrasound concentricity meter. Designed and built sound detection system for extrusion process machine protection.

Designed and built several pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.

Designed, built and commissioned 415V harmonically tuned, 18 step switched capacitor bank for power factor correction of 3500 tone extrusion press.

Implemented Gas furnace control to increase productivity and quality in heating copper billets ready for extrusion.

Detailed specification and installation supervision for $1.25M Extrusion runout upgrade.

Supervised numerous electricians, fitters and dual trade apprentices in breakdown repair work.

1994 - 1998
