Jointly Organised by

DELNET, New Delhi and Smt Hansa Mehta Library, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara

November 20-22, 2012

Theme:

Libraries for the Future : Collection, Competencies and Cooperation

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF ITS LIBRARY MOVEMENT IN INDIA

Libraries, the epitomes of knowledge and information have undergone unprecedented changes in India in the past and more so in the last few decades. In order to prepare for the future, it is pertinent for LIS professionals to discuss and deliberate on the ‘Libraries for the Future’ and to hone their intellect and strategies to combat the enormous challenges. There is a growing need for evolving the collection building policies and better procedures in the digital environment wherein the focus has to be diverted from ownership to access. The competencies of the professionals are at stake and their roles are being redefined in the current knowledge era wherein they are expected to work as knowledge workers rather than merely as information gatherers. While ensuring that libraries have a promising bright future the inter-library and intra-library cooperation is going to play an important role and the users’ participation is greatly desirable in the process. It is with these concerns for developing the libraries for the future that the 15th National Convention on Knowledge, Library and Information Networking, NACLIN 2012 is being organised at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara from November 20-22, 2012. It is proposed that the invited experts and the participants will deliberate on these and other pertinent issues and produce a roadmap for libraries and library professionals for the future.

The national convention is scheduled for three days. The first day is entirely devoted to conducting tutorial by an expert on the following topic:
