Performance criteria

1.1Drive components and their location are identified in accordance with service information.

Rangeinput shaft, transom mounting, double acting universal joint assembly, torque tube, propeller shaft, rudder, propeller.

1.2Operation of a surface piercing drive unit is described in accordance with service information.

Rangesteering, shallow water operation, use in aerated and ventilated water, use of large diameter propellers.

1.3Surface piercing drive unit transom mounting requirements are described in accordance with service information.

Outcome 2

Demonstrate knowledge of surface piercing drive unit servicing requirements.

Performance criteria

2.1Routine maintenance procedures are identified from the manufacturer maintenance schedules.

Rangelubrication, sealing, adjustment.

2.2Visual inspection procedures are identified in accordance with service information.

Rangedamage, mounting, condition of rubber boot and propeller, operation of drive.

2.3Repair procedures are identified in accordance with service information.
