Explanatory notes
1This unit standard applies to both the injection phase and the blow phase of the two stage injection stretch-blow moulding process.
2All work practices must meet enterprise health and safety requirements.
3Definitions
Trial refers to the testing and evaluation of either new, raw material; new tooling; or tooling for which there is neither prior knowledge nor production set up information available.
Enterprise means an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place, and/or where the trainee is employed.
Enterprise procedure is defined as actions which comply with the policies, systems, and directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedure must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent amendments.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Trial tooling in specified injection stretch-blow moulding equipment.
Evidence requirements
1.1Tooling and equipment trial preparations are carried out in accordance with enterprise requirements.
1.2The tooling is fitted, and pre-start procedures are carried out in accordance with enterprise requirements.
1.3Initial machine conditions are set according to product design, material type, and tooling construction.
1.4Trial procedures are carried out, and adjustments are made to optimise product quality and productivity under stable process conditions, and to satisfy organisational quality and machine cycle time requirements.
1.5Trial results are recorded in accordance with enterprise procedure.
Outcome 2
Start up the process for an initial production run.
Evidence requirements
2.1The equipment and tooling are put into production, and are monitored to maintain job specification and meet enterprise requirements.
2.2Running adjustments are made and are recorded, in accordance with enterprise procedure.
