Serve as primary CANR/RHSA liaison with Admissions, Registrar, Center for Students with Disabilities, Program for College Students with Learning Disabilities, Student Support Services, Study Abroad, and other departments and programs throughout campus; contribute to development and strengthening of university-wide or interdepartmental programs, practices and procedures such as student registration system (PeopleSoft), New England Regional Program, STRONG-CT, Teachers for a New Era, regional campus interaction and transition, study abroad, and individualized major program; provide leadership for incorporating RHSA program into university systems and procedures.
Initiate and facilitate CANR/RHSA educational partnership agreements with community colleges and high schools, including transfer course equivalencies and Early College Experience; contribute to programs and practices to increase educational opportunities for current and potential students from underrepresented populations; participate in faculty projects and research relating to pedagogy and assessment of student learning; communicate with alumni, businesses, and organizations associated and interested in CANR/RHSA programs.
Review applications and make recommendations for admission to RHSA; mentor CANR/RHSA faculty advisors and department heads on advising issues and other student concerns; communicate with potential students, parents, teachers, and counselors; organize and assist with events and activities; investigate and respond to academic concerns of and inquiries from students, faculty and administrators; serve on committees and provide input for curricula and courses, graduation requirements, RHSA to CANR transfer decisions, scholarships, university publications, and CANR/RHSA promotional materials; provide direction and make “dean’s level” decisions for fair and consistent enforcement of academic policies with careful attention to individual circumstances; advocate for CANR/RHSA students with other departments on campus, as needed.
Recruit, advise, and mentor current and potential undergraduate and graduate students interested in Agricultural Education; teach graduate course, EDCI 395: Subject Area Methods for Teaching Agriculture; participate in teacher education faculty meetings in Neag School of Education (NSoE); serve on NSoE Admissions committees for teacher education programs; serve as primary liaison with high school teachers and programs in agricultural science; assist with coordination of student teaching, clinic, and internship placement for AgEd students; communicate with other universities and faculty involved in teacher preparation for agricultural science.
