PPG Meeting
12thNovember2015 at 10:30am, Hurley Clinic, Conference Room
Present: Priscilla, Dilys, Christine, Kemi, Cortina, Michael English, Pam and Cleo
Apologies from John Johnson
- Minutes of the last meeting: agreed
- Matters arising
Medication Passport:Pam has had 50 delivered. Patients can go to a pharmacy to help them fill it but time maybe a factor for the pharmacy. It should be for people with multiple conditions and meds. Agreed to put it close to collection point at reception so patients can take one.
- Announcements:-
Re: Staff –Pam talked about the new Physicians Associates, starting at the practice. One is due to start in December and the other in February next year. One is female and the other is male Their level of skill is between that of a doctor’s and nurse’s, however, they cannot usually prescribe, but the male PA is already due to train in prescribing. They can do lots of other things like home visits, see the acute patients and assess them as well as manage the chronic disease patients. These Physicians are medically trained and the aim is for them to ease off the pressure from existing doctors who can then deal with more complex patient needs.
Michael Peel is leaving in December, due to family commitments. Patients assigned to doctor peel on the alphabet will be allocated to another doctor
Dr Duffield and Agueda: Congratulations to them as they had their babies.
Hub
We weren’t approve to run the hub for a number of reasons, one being that we didn’t have a pharmacy close by to open at weekends. We did however, agree to make this happen if we were successful.
Dilys read somewhere that ‘Sundays with hubs are empty and not being used. This is a waste of money as we have seldoc already which works very well and we’re lucky to have it’. Priscilla, ‘doubtful about the benefits about hubs because
Tannoy/calling screen
Pam announced that new electronic calling screens have been agreed for the practice. On the mechanism for calling patients, PPG members said, ‘if we have a ding, should be at different pitches’. They asked that there should be a process to have feedback so patients can give their opinion screen when it goes live. Agreed Pam will look into configuration such as audible ding. Also, we should have an announcement to patients as they come in when it is installed. PPG members can come in and help do this.
Patient Survey
Thanks to Kemi and Dilys for their work. Overall results are ok. The tone of the comments is a bit less harsh. Access is still an issue re: appointments. Reception staff, ‘we know their two sides to the stories but never the less, their some lessons to be learnt’. It was proposed that at our next meeting we should discuss more about the feedback on the surveys. We should add, ‘if you have a complaint, have you gone through the complaint procedure?’ to the questionnaires in future, as some points raised look quite serious, but as the questionnaires are anonymous, it is difficult to take any action. Agreed Pam will add onto website.
- AGM Agenda:
Dr Ross Dyer-Smith can’t get there in time. Mark is willing to discuss.
Nicola Kingston (Clapham Park PPG) cannot get there. Rylla Baker-Director of Operations will be able to talk about the plans for the future at the Hurley group. Text to be sent out again, and to state doors open at 6:15pm. Agreed to add ‘If you have a question please drop in at reception’, or “email your questions to the practice email address”.
Refreshments, we shall not have refreshments.
Reception: Pam will discuss all the information we have at reception and Cleo will present as the face at reception too.
Priscilla to email Cleo with final draft, we shall print of 50 copies for AGM meeting to hand to patients. We might have to look at how we do things in relation to sharing more with the patients about what PPG is doing.
- Future Activities
Warm and well responded to say they received our application but we haven’t received and other feedback. Agreed Dilys would contact them just to find out how it’s going as PPG members need to get themselves ready.
Next event: 17th December, Durning library on ‘Loneliness’
Agreed Pam will have a look at the budget to explore if there’s any money around to contribute to warm and well if we don’t here from Age Uk.
Proposed another Warm and Well in January 28th 2016.
- PPG Network, 9th of December
We are entitled to 3places. Priscilla will be going. Venue 336 Brixton Road at 17:30 to 20:00
Cortina cannot attend as she will be at another meeting. Christine cannot attend.

Online access to medical records
Patients don’t realise they have a right to their records, online access; they can view them and take copies away at a cost. Cleo will include that in her presentation; bring a copy of the policy along and the cost.
