This semester you need to choose and read a biography (non-fiction) of your choice that will help you determine and demonstrate character traits of the person about whom the book is written. The book chosen must have met the approval of parents, teacher and be appropriate for the 10th grade reading level. The book will be chosen and presented to the teacher on February to receive homework credit. You must choose a biography that fits under one of these time periods in history.
Industrial Revolution
Imperialism
WWI
Russian Revolution
World War II
Cold War
When you have completed reading the book, please complete the tasks below, which are designed to indicate your comprehension of the book and your competency in some of the writing skills we have covered so far this semester.
CONNECTION:
Demonstrate at least 3 connections between the character in the book and your life in a single paragraph, presented in MLA format. The connections need to be based on parallel events, circumstances or interests of those experienced or held by the subject of the biography.
IMPORTANT EVENTS:
The memo should also include your choice of the four most important events in the characters life. For each passage, quote the passage and then explain its importance and why it would be one of the most IMPORTANT events in this person’s life. This should be in memo format.
LETTER:
Third, create a personal letter to the character in the book. This should be in letter format. Give your thoughts about the actions and decisions of this character. Give advice if necessary. Discuss the future, even if the character is dead. Discuss the impact this character's actions have on other characters. Make the letter at least 300 words.
REFLECTION:
In a memo of at least 200 words, reflect on the process of reading the book. How was reading this book different or meaningful for you? Cite at least 3 from either one or both.
You will be required to do all 4 of the above tasks to get full credit for this assignment.
It will all be stapled together neatly and typed out using 12 point font for each of the 4 things above. Each assignment will be worth 25 points.
