1.3 SUBMITTALS.1Product Data:

.1Submit manufacturer’s printed product literature,

specifications and data sheets indicating hardware

proposed, including ANSI function where ANSI used in

this specification, grade, type, series, BHMA finish, fire

label listing, in accordance with Section 01 00 10 –

General Instructions.

.2Samples:

.1Submit samples of each type of hardware

specified in accordance with Section 01 00 10 –

General Instructions.

.2Identify each sample by label indicating applicable

specification paragraph number, brand name and

number, finish and hardware package number.

.3After approval samples will be returned for

incorporation in the Work.

.3Hardware List:

.1Submit a typewritten Finishing Hardware schedule in

accordance with Section 01 00 10 – General

Instructions.

.2Indicate specified hardware, including make, model,

base material, function, size, finish and other pertinent

information.

.4Manufacturer’s Instructions:

.1Submit manufacturer’s installation instructions.

.5Closeout Submittals:

.1Provide operation, maintenance data, parts list and

manufacturer’s instructions for each type of locksets,

door closers and door holders for incorporation into

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE.1Regulatory Requirements:

.1Use hardware for doors in fire separations and exit

doors certified by a Canadian Certification organization

accredited by Standards Council of Canada.

.2All fire and life safety codes shall be met as required by the

authority having jurisdiction.

.3Use lock and latchsets with lever handles meeting

requirementsof CAN/CSA- B651, Barrier Free Design, unless

specifiedotherwise.

.4Pre-installation Meetings: conduct pre-installation meeting to

verify project requirements, manufacturer’s installation

instructions and manufacturer’s warranty requirements.

.5It shall be clearly understood that within the terms of this

Subcontract, the Door Hardware Supplier is bound not just as a

supplier, but as a Subcontractor and is responsible for the

supply of Project services relative to project co-ordination,

supervision and inspection.

.6No claims for extra money will be entertained if such claims are

from lack of co-ordination between the Door Hardware

Subcontractor and any other Subcontractor. Ensure that Work

of other Subcontractors, as it proceeds, will accommodate the

installation of hardware.

.7Attend site meetings as requested by the Contractor.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE.1Packing, Shipping, Handling and Unloading:

.2Package each item of hardware including fastenings,

separately or in like groups of hardware, label each

package as to item definition and location.

1.6 WASTE DISPOSAL.1Separate and recycle waste materials in accordance with

.3Dispose of all packaging material in appropriate on-site bin for

recycling in accordance with site waste management program.

1.7 MAINTENANCE.1Extra Materials:

.1Provide maintenance materials in accordance with

Section 01 00 10 – General Instructions.

.2Supply two sets of wrenches for locksets, and door

closers.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 HARDWARE ITEMS.1Door hardware, as specified, to be certified to ANSI/BHMA

standards.

.2Use one manufacturer’s products only for all similar items.

.3Acceptable Materials: Where materials are specified by trade

name refer to the Instructions to Tenderers for procedure to be

followed in applying for approval of alternates.

2.2 DOOR HARDWARE.1Butts and Hinges shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.1

.1A8112 - steel base metal, full mortise, exposed

anti-friction ball bearing, grade 2, standard weight.

.2Supply 1-1/2 pair per door leaf for doors up to 2285mm

in height. Supply one additional hinge for each

additional 762mm of height or fraction thereof. Doors,

45mm thickness, up to 914mm in width, supply 114mm

high hinges; over 914mm to 1220mm, supply 127mm

high hinges.

.3NRP - non removable pin.

.4Hinges listed are by Hager.

Stanley equivalents are acceptable.

.2Continuous Hinges shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.26

.1Continuous hinges for aluminum doors shall be

aluminum material, gear type, edge mount, heavy duty,

minimum thirty- two thrust bearings, staggered screw

holes. Leafs should not extend fully across both the

frame rebate and the edge of exterior aluminum door

thus reducing transfer of cold.

.2Factory cut, maintaining three rows of two screws (six

total) at both top and bottom, to length required for door

height. Length to match door height. 12.7mm of door

heel exposure is acceptable. For exterior door

application the length should be reduced to allow

installation of the door sweep across the full width of

theexterior door face without interfering with the hinge

knuckle.

.3Hager Roton continuous hinges 780-112 HD series

listed for aluminum doors.

.3Bored and Preassembled Locks and Latches, shall comply with

ANSI/BHMA A156.2

.1Medium duty cylindrical type, 2 grade.

1. Schlage A series, Orbit (ORB) knob design. No

substitution.

.2Rear portion of heavy duty one piece cast floor stops

shall have a stud to prevent rotation. Rise to suit door

undercut.

.3Wall stop shall have a metal back plate secured to wall

with (2) screws and shields. Housing and rubber insert

fits over back plate and is secured with inconspicuous

allen set screw on side of housing. No screws or holes

shall be visible on face of bumper.

.10Threshold shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.21

.1Extruded aluminum. Oversized in length to allow

copingaround exterior pressed steel frame faces.

Width tosuit jamb and floor conditions.

.11Threshold Lip shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.21

.1Aluminum c/w silicone insert. Applied to surface of flat

threshold against inside face of door.

.13Weatherstripping shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.22

.1Extruded aluminum with silicone insert. Predrilled with

oblong screw holes for adjustment. Designed to provide

continuous weather seal. Surface hardware to be

attached to frame through weatherstrip section.

Confirm frame stop width sufficient to support 38.1±mm

wide extrusion. Provide shim as required.

K.N. Crowder: W-20S

.223mm wide extruded aluminum ‘L’ profile with silicone

insert. Predrilled with oblong screw holes for

adjustment.

K.N. Crowder: W-16S

.14Auxiliary Locks shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.36-2010

.1Narrow stile locks. Key on outside, paddle on inside

retracts latch bolt. Auxiliary dead latch. Latch bolt is

held retracted when so actuated.

2.3 KEYING.1The Door Hardware Supplier shall prepare a detailed keying

schedule in co-operation with the Project Manager.

.2All locks shall be keyed into a new Schlage keying system as

follows:

- construction master keyed

- master keyed

- keyed alike or different as required.

.3Supply (2) change keys per cylinder.

Supply (4) construction master keys

Supply (2) extractor keys

Supply (3) master keys per group.

.4All permanent keys are to be delivered directly to the Project

Manager.

.5All cylinders are to be supplied with cams / tailpieces suitable

for specified lock functions. Supply all compression rings, trim

collars and blocking rings to suit.

.6The Contractor is responsible for providing locks and cylinders

as required for his own use during the period of construction.

2.4 FASTENINGS.1All hardware is to be installed using manufactures’ supplied

fasteners. Failure to comply may void warranties and

applicable licensed labels. Self tapping/tek screws will not be

acceptable on this project.

.2Supply screws, bolts, expansion shields and other fastening

devices required for satisfactory installation and operation of

hardware.

.3Exposed fastening devices to match finish hardware.

.4Kick plates are to be supplied with self adhesive tape, except

where noted, then supply countersunk, oval head, flush

mounting socket screws to suit door material.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 MANUFACTURER’S .1Compliance: comply with manufacturer’s written data, including

INSTRUCTIONSproduct technical bulletins, product catalogue installation

instructions, product carton installation instructions and data

sheets.

.2When requested, furnish metal door and frame manufacturers

with complete instructions and templates for preparation of

theirwork to receive hardware.

.3Furnish manufacturer’s instructions for proper installation of

each hardware component.

3.2 INSTALLATION.1Install hardware to standard hardware location dimensions in

accordance with Canadian Metric Guide for Steel Doors and

Frames (Modular Construction) prepared by Canadian Steel

Door and Frame Manufacturers’ Association, or as indicated

forspecial conditions.

.2Only tradesmen competent in the installation of Finishing

Hardware shall be used for this purpose. Qualification would

require a minimum (5) years experience in commercial

application. The installer shall adjust, clean and make good all

installation of Finishing Hardware to the satisfaction of the

Project Manager.

.3Kick plates are to be installed 1.59mm maximum up from the

bottom edge of door push side. On single doors install in the

centre of the door equally spaced to clear between the frame

jamb stops and/or gasketing.

.4Thresholds are to be extended from masonry opening to

masonry opening and are to be coped around the pressed

steelframes. Installer to caulk threshold base to ensure proper

seal.

.5Weatherstripping is not to be installed until final coat of paint

has been applied to the door and frame and is completely dry.

.6Door Supplier, when templating, must consider surface

mounted w/stripping which is 8.0±mm thick. Door closer

parallel arm brackets and overhead stop/holder brackets will

mount on top of the weatherstripping.

3.3 ADJUSTING.1Adjust door hardware for optimum, smooth operating condition,

safety and for weather tight closure.

.2Lubricate hardware, operating equipment and other

moving parts.

.3Adjust door hardware to provide tight fit at contact points with

frames.

3.4 CLEANING.1Perform cleaning after installation to remove construction and

accumulated environmental dirt.

.2Clean hardware with damp cloth and approved non- abrasive

cleaner. Polish hardware in accordance with manufacturer’s

instructions.

.3Remove protective material from hardware items where

present.

.4Upon completion of installation, remove surplus materials,

rubbish, tools and equipment barriers.

3.5 DEMONSTRATION.1Maintenance Staff Briefing:

.1Brief maintenance staff regarding:

.1 Proper care, cleaning and general maintenance

of projects complete hardware.

.2Description, use, handling, and storage of keys.

.3Use, application and storage of wrenches for

locksets, exit devices and door closers.

.2Demonstrate operation, operating components,

adjustment features and lubrication requirements.

3.6 INSPECTIONS.1 The Door Hardware Supplier shall make periodic site

inspections during installation of hardware to ensure that all

hardware supplied is being applied in accordance with

specifications, details and Architect’s directions. Inform the

Contractor and the Architect in writing of such inspections,

pointing out errors, omissions, etc.: so that same may be

corrected.

.2 The Door Hardware Supplier will contact product

representatives (locksets, exit devices and door closers) who

will also make inspections during construction to ensure the

proper installation and adjustment of their products. Final

inspection to be carried out by Door Hardware Supplier and

Product Representative. Representative to provide written

certification that hardware has been installed and adjusted as

intended.

3.7 HARDWARE SCHEDULE.1 The following is a list of hardware to be used to define required

standards on this project. Acceptable alternates as listed.

Additional alternates subject to review and written acceptance

prior to submission, within the allotted time period, of the

Tender closing. Substitutions without prior approval will not be

accepted in the shop drawing submission.
