Explanatory notes

1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments.

2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace.

3 The publication Corrugating Defect/Remedy Manual, editor James T. Carbone, TAPPI Press, Atlanta USA, Sixth edition 1999 is the standard for fault types and remedies for this unit standard.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Identify printing faults and describe their causes.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Printing faults are identified from physical samples or photographs or diagrams.

Range ink smear or ink smudge, uniformly incorrect colour shade, halo, print out of register or print askew, missing print, poor definition, printing crush, uneven ink coverage, image distortion, ink fill in, poor trapping, dirty printing, colour shade variations.

1.2 A minimum of two causes are described for each fault ranged at 1.1.

Range the causes provided are those most often experienced in the workplace.

Outcome 2

Demonstrate knowledge of the actions required to rectify printing faults.

Evidence requirements

2.1 A minimum of one corrective action to rectify each fault cause given at 1.2 is described.

Range the corrective actions provided are those most often undertaken in the workplace.
