Explanatory notes

1 Contract negotiation at this level covers the analysis and selection of subcontract quotations and the application of selected contract types to tendering procedures.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Obtain and select subcontract quotations.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Subcontractors are selected in terms of industry criteria and quotations submitted are checked to ensure that requirements of brief are met.

Range industry criteria may include but is not limited to - expertise, past history, availability.

1.2 Quotations, including tags are analysed in terms of their effect on the tender submission, compared, and a recommendation is included in the main contractor tender submission.

1.3 Selected subcontractors are notified and appointed in accordance with the contract conditions and the main contractor's requirements.

Outcome 2

Apply specified types of construction contracts to tendering and procurement situations.

Range types may include but are not limited to – lump sum, fluctuating, fixed price, cost reimbursement, two stage tendering, target cost, design and build, NZIA Standard Conditions of Contract, NZS 3910 Conditions of Contract.

Evidence requirements

2.1 Specified types of construction contracts are analysed in terms of their application to tendering and procurement situations.

2.2 The relevant sections of construction contracts are applied to the tendering process to ensure that the requirements of a construction contract are met.

This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
