Disease Project

(100 test/project points)

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Choose a disease to research. You must sign-up first because each student in the class must research a different disease. Research your disease using approved websites and databases:
  • Most websites with a URL ending in .org, .gov, or.edu are reliable sources
  • See librarian or school library website for reliable databases
  1. Outline of your research
  • Starts with a title page (name, disease, Image period, semester, year) but this is not included within the three page requirement
  • Minimum three pages—outline should be typed and single spaced. I will be referencing your outline and sources when you present to check for accuracy and to validate the information you are reporting. A template for the outline is provided on my website.
  • Do not copy and paste! I will be on the lookout for plagiarism.
  • Ends with your Works Cited Page but this is also not included within the three page requirement
  1. Visual Aid for presentation
  • Poster, model, PowerPoint, etc…
  • Large enough to be seen by classmates in the back of the room, or otherwise passed around
  • Helps you TEACH about this disease but not word for word
  • Has color and pictures; visually pleasing
  1. Index Cards with hints, not your entire presentation word for word, to assist you during your presentation. Not necessary to use but required to have.
  • Presentation must be 7-10 minutes long
  • Presenter view in PPT is acceptable.
  1. Presentation must have an interactive component
  • Come up with something to engage your audience
  • This could come in many forms; a quiz, an activity, a skit, a model, etc.
  • Get your audience involved into your presentation some how
  1. Works Cited Page in MLA format
  • In the bulk of your outline provide in-text citations from your sources
  • Works cited page comes at the end of your outline, also not included in the three pages
  • At least four current resources/references; 2 out of 4 need to be from MIHS Library Databases
  • See librarian or school library website for help with this – we will have a day spent with the librarian
