1.2Guest Speakers / Service Directory Update – Jen Smith
Jen Smith (Red Cross) – Service Directory completed. Talked about the experience and tabled some concerns. It was intimidating to make the calls and raised the negative experiences (not being listened to, rude attitude).
Red Cross are preparing to share the directory with Brighton Alive.
Potential for this to be confused with commercial directories. Encouraged to reflect on what could have been different. Encouraged Red Cross to take this up with the specific service providers.
ACTION: Centacare Evolve to manage service directory from now on.
ACTION: Build service directory into collective impact project.
How do we shift culture here? E.g. training and alerting, a collective chapter about interface with service system.
ACTION: Each service to reemphasize the importance of client service when someone rings or walks in.
ACTION: Red Cross to provide feedback to specific services. Red Cross to explore running Bridges out of Poverty training again.
6-13 Collective Impact approach - update – Maree Fudge
Maree outlined the approach and where the project was up to.
Discussion took place regarding challenges with NAPLAN results, and the importance of relationships between families and schools.
ACTION: Maree Fudge to note the need for a grant proposal for gap in service to support parents in engaging with school. Brighton Alive members to send grant rounds when they see them.
1.3General Round. / YPCN:Focusing on 6-13yo at the moment, will focus on 13-17yo once this is bedded down.
Early Years Group: Hoping to present strategic plan to Brighton Alive in November. NOTE that tagari lia open for play drop in -> 1pm in the school holidays.
Community Blitz: Success in getting a work for the dole project for Community Blitz. Expecting back to work on Monday. 4 people completing Certificate in Horticulture.
Workskills: NOTE Workskills is available to match work for the dole participants with projects BA members might need to be done.
Mental Health Week: 8 October expo – venue PCYC (likely). Please be involved.
REQUEST: Each service to bring a focus on Mental Health to every service.
Red Cross noted they intended to develop a handout but others strongly suggested they use and access the suicide prevention handout already developed by Suicide Prevention Network
ACTION: Cathy to contact Jill at Glenorchy City Council to source these for MH Week and ensure they are at the event and at services all over the area in MH week.
Centacare Evolve: Starting tenant surveys in late October.
  • 100 surveys to map social and city networking
  • Community Engagement – late October
  • Development of Engagement Reference Group
  • Welcome packs for residents.
Family Violence initiative – offering family houses for people to leave family violence situations.
Red Cross: supporting 3 consumer groups and forming a consumer alliance. Alliance likely to advocate to HT immediately. Observation that Family Violence Service Providers inhibiting consumer voice.
David Llewellyn’s office (Jen) - Starting a research project into digital divide across the electorate
