I hope to have a schedule completed for parent conferences via SignUp Genius within the next few days. I will email everyone a notice that it will soon be up, so that you will be prepared to sign in when you receive the invitation.

Please return forms for photos ASAP. So far I’ve only received 7.

Please note: Our first book report was assigned last Monday. Please retain the assignment in notebook, and help your child to review the due dates.

Please reinforce with your children the number one rule they adopted: listening to teachers (including TIs and enrichment teachers).

Marshmallow Challenge pictures are now posted on the school website on my Teacher Pages in the Class Gallery section.

Curriculum

Math – Please sign the math test students will bring home on Monday. Overall, the test scores were terrific! This week we will begin our unit on subtraction to 10,000, with and without regrouping, including subtraction across zeros. Additionally, we will begin introducing multiplication facts, one fact each week, to build quick recall.

Spelling – Our spelling list—featuring short and long a vowel sounds-- will be sent home on Monday, with an attached 4-word vocabulary list for study.

Grammar -- Students will continue learning about simple sentences, focusing this week on subjects and predicates.

Reading -- Students will read The Keeping Quilt, by Patricia Polacco, and perform a variety of reading comprehension activities based on the story. Additionally, students will create a paper class quilt to go along with the story. We have also been reading leveled readers with partners and in small groups.

Writing -- Students will complete their writing piece on the three things they need to be happy. I have been holding writer’s conferences with each student to focus on their individual writing needs.

Social Studies -- This week we will finish up identifying the Southern states and introduce the Northeastern states.

Cursive -- Mr. Hernandez will teach the letters E and F, and review previously learned letters.

Have a perfect week with your precious children!
