Dear NNO Members:

The City of Rochester, New York, The Southwest Neighborhood and the Rochester Police Department have partnered up to participate in Project 365. The Southwest Neighborhood consists of several community organizations such as the 19th ward, (JABA) Jefferson Ave Business Association, (SWAN) Southwest Neighborhood Association, (PLEX) Plymouth/Exchange Neighborhood Association, (GCBA) Genesee Corridor Business Association, Chili Ave Business Association, Arnett Blvd Block Club, Neighborhood United, Changing of the Scenes and We Care.

The Southwest Neighborhood has chosen to team up with the above organizations to uplift, revitalize and increase quality of life issues for residents & businesses located on Jefferson Ave in the city of Rochester, NY from Frost Ave to Columbia Ave. Many of the issues that plague this area are loitering, narcotic sales and drug use. In the past these problems have led to violent assaults and property crimes within the neighborhood.

Jefferson Ave is currently undergoing and economic revitalization and is in transition. The neighborhood is getting a much needed overhaul. The City of Rochester and the State of New York has committed monetary funds to improve the street, sidewalks and economic development. The City of Rochester is always issuing grants to fund new businesses and has committed resources to help the Jefferson Ave neighborhood.

The Southwest Neighborhood Association envisions Jefferson Ave as a clean, thriving business district that is safe for community residents who live in and around the Jefferson Ave corridor. The Southwest Neighborhood Association also envisions more active block clubs and increased community involvement.

The Police Department will continue to increased patrols (i.e. foot patrol and provide anti violence details entailing proactive policing to decrease violence and narcotics sales. The Southwest Neighborhood Service Center and The Southwest Neighborhood Associations will continue to support volunteer efforts such as community clean ups, block clubs and neighborhood uplifts to help achieve these goals.

We hope these efforts will allow the Jefferson Ave corridor to increase and sustain commercial business. The neighborhood association would like to see a population increase in residential portions of the Jefferson Ave corridor. The neighborhood association would also like to see community residents get more involved by engaging in community meetings and volunteerism. Our Focus over the next year is to educate community residents about the Jefferson Ave revitalization project through project 365. It is the neighborhood association’s intent to provide information to residents and direct them towards projects, groups and or leaders that will help in achieving these goals.

Thank you,
