1. White Orange Youth - Based in Moshi, Tanzania

About White Orange Youth

White Orange Youth has been a partner of Mama Hope since February 2016. Their aim is to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and increase the quality of life of young people and other at-risk groups in Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Working with young people, commercial sex workers and drug users, the organization uses peer-to-peer education to spread the use of positive practices and to dispel common myths around the disease. WOY's aim is to raise a generation who is well educated about the disease and able to thrive and achieve their life goals, while supporting those around them to do the same.

As a Global Advocate you will:

Work closely with the founder and co-founder to develop a school based outreach training program for HIV/AIDS awareness and sexual education. As the organisation grows they would like to develop a training program that can be replicated in schools throughout the Kilimanjaro region. You would be responsible for research, implementation and training WOY’s current volunteer outreach educators.

Support current outreach programs, including ‘Free to Dream,’ a program that is empowering young women who have been unable to access education, with skills in business entrepreneurship.

Desired Skills:

Background in sexual reproductive health.

Experience speaking to youth about HIV and sexual education.

2. Budondo Intercultural Centre - Based in Budondo, Uganda

About Budondo Intercultural Center

BI Center is a community based organization registered under the local government in 2012. It is located in Budondo village, Luuka District and serving 58 villages in the district and its surrounding areas in Eastern Uganda. On their mission to empower individuals and families to lead healthy and productive lives, BI Center focuses on ensuring access to and use of health services in rural communities. This is done through a tri-approach, firstly by operating Suubi Health Center from where families utilize reproductive and general health services. Secondly, the organization runs local projects that increase household incomes and financially support the operations of Suubi. And lastly, by improving on communities’ resilience towards population, health and environmental shocks through training households in agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, building energy saving stoves, tree planting and soil conservation.

Role of a Global Advocate

EAGA will work directly with the program director in a developing a communication strategy for BIC. On a day-to-day basis, you will work alongside program managers to capture materials such as stories of impact and regularly update BIC Social Media Platforms. You will also work together with the programs director and BIC Coordinator to create a platform for socioeconomic and environmental innovations. The platform will be for showcasing creative ideas and nurturing them to real products or projects.

3. Our Lady of Perpetual Support - Based in Kisumu, Kenya

About Our Lady of Perpetual Support

OLPS started as a community-based organization in 1992 by a group of HIV-positive individuals to mitigate the impact of the disease through community participation, as there were virtually no biomedical treatments available. Its initial activities were geared towards increasing community acceptance of people living with AIDS. In 1999, OLPS widened its scope to include HIV prevention, care and treatment, reproductive health, education and promotion, and programs aimed at creating healthy, empowered, and productive youth. Since then, OLPS has counseled and tested over 96,000 individuals for HIV. They now have a range of community based projects including outreach programs, a children’s rescue center and a farm that aims to provide income and food for the rescue center. The rescue centre is a temporary home for children for one to two years, during which staff facilitate each child’s integration into family units.

As a Global Advocate you will:

Work closely with the Sustainable Projects Manager to regenerate the land at the OLPS Farm and map out a plan for its future sustainability, particularly in times of drought. The farm was developed as an income generating project for OLPS so you will be responsible for helping to plan for and bring the farm to life after the recent period of drought in Kisumu.
