WORLD HISTORY

COURSE SYLLABUS

2016-2017

COURSE GOALS:

1)To understand events and themes of world history from the Neolithic to present.

2)To prepare adequately for higher level courses in world history and instill a lasting interest

3)in the world’s past and present.

4)To learn skills which will enhance future educational endeavors: critical reading, analysis of

documents, reading for the main idea, mastery of content, writing essays, and relating events

from different periods in history.

CLASSROOM POLICY/EXPECTATIONS:

The best policy is for both the teacher and student to uphold a high standard of achievement and

work ethic. To follow through with this, we all must respect each other and be prepared to work.

As a high school student, you are expected to work hard and take responsibility for your own actions.

Please come prepared to class each day with your own supplies, a positive attitude, ready to work, and participate in class.

SUPPLIES:

You will need the following every day:

1)blue or black pen or pencil

2)paper

GRADING POLICY:

Seguin High School Grading policy will be followed:

Daily Assignments = 50%

Major Grades (Tests, Projects, Etc.) = 50%

MAKE UP WORK:

For any class missed, the teacher may assign the student makeup work based on the objectives

for the subject.

Students are expected to assume personal responsibility for completing assignments missed

after an absence. Long-term projects, papers with specific due dates, which are made

prior to the absence, are due on the designated day. Students absent the day of a test

areexpected to take the test the day they return.

Extensions are at the discretion of the teacher. Assignments given and missed on day(s) of absences(s) are due the following day. Students out multiple days will have the number of days out to make up work.

LATE WORK:

All assignments are due as directed by the teacher. Assignments turned in late will be graded like all other papers. Late assignments will be accepted up to 5 days after due date for a maximum of 80 points.

PROGRESS REPORTS AND REPORT CARDS:

Students will receive a progress report or report card every 3 weeks.

OFFICE HOURS:

30 minutes before and after school on Monday
