Brooks Presents "Run Happy Island" July 12th & 13th

What is a "Run Happy Island"?Brooks is taking the tropics on the road to rejuvenate your running routine with a tidal wave of Run Happy. It’s the most important souvenir you’ll take from our little slice of island life: the reminder that Running Happy can happen anytime, anywhere and on every run—no palm trees required.
What does "RUN HAPPY ISLAND" do for you? It's a free gait analysis, give-a-way prizes and some other sweet things!
Where can you find them?
Saturday, July 12th (10am-5pm at The Runners Edge)
Sunday, July 13th (7am-12pm at Caras Park / Missoula Marathon Finish Line Festival)
Reflections From the Start Line (John Fiore, Sapphire PT)

The Missoula Marathon is less than two weeks away and summer trail running ultras are sending Missoula runners to races near and far. The Missoula Marathon training class began in March and the runners who were able to stick with the training program will be rewarded with a trip to the start line on July 13th.
Standing on the starting line of any race is a privilege. Day after day, week after week, and month after month you tracked your mileage, pace, nutrition, and cross training. The hours we spend training for and preparing for a race can be likened to a part-time job!
But what about the behind the scenes reasons you will be toeing the start line on July 13th? Without our families, friends, training partners, and coaches/mentors none of us would be nearly as successful in reaching the start line. Our support network and the incredible Missoula running community not only enables us to start the race, but is there in full force when we cross the finish line. I was reminded of this fact two weekends ago in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. I surprised to see such a large group of Missoulians present racing and crewing. The finish line felt like a homecoming complete with the Run Wild Missoula tent and high-fives down the finishing stretch.
Thank your running support network before you line up for the Missoula Marathon or your next trail running ultra. Remember how fortunate you are to be at the start line. If for some reason you will not be able to start the race (due to injury or otherwise), use the set back as motivation to go back to the drawing board and return next year. I wish each and every Missoula runner success in the month of July and beyond!

Philosophy:“If you’re not particularly good at any one sport, you might as well do them all.”
Currently Training For:Missoula Half Marathon, USA Triathlon National Championships in early August, International Triathlon Union World Championships in late August.
Favorite Things to Do Besides Running:cycling, swimming, alpine skiing, ice skating, kayaking
Craziest Thing I Ever Did:At age 17, I rode my 3-speed Raleigh bicycle across the United States from Rhode Island to San Francisco in 1951, covering 3400 miles in 35 days on a budget of $15 a week. Then rode most of the way back. Lesson learned: prevailing winds blow from west to east. Headwind 28 of the 35 days. But it’s exhilarating to wake up in the morning and have a day of new experiences and adventures ahead.
Words of Wisdom:I’m thankful for all the years of running, biking, swimming, skiing, hiking, climbing, kayaking, sailing, and other outdoor activities I’ve been fortunate to enjoy. Although slowing over the years, I feel as if I’m running as fast as ever -- until I look at my watch.
Anything Else You’d Like to Add: I met my wife Sue Falsey when we were both training for marathons, she for the New York City marathon, me for the Marine Corps marathon.
