AMA CLIMBING & MOUNTAINEERING MEET – SCOTLAND (24– 26JUN 2017) – ADMINISTRATION INSTRUCTION
1.General. This AMA climbing & mountaineering meetwill be held in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Parks and based out of Crianlarich. This instruction provides theinformation required to arrive properly prepared for the event.
- Aim. In addition to the generic aims of AT, themeet is to provide attendees the opportunity to gain log book experience and QMDs towards further JSAT qualifications by delivering:
- Single and multi-pitch climbing.
- Scramblingup to Grade 3.
- Hill walking.
- Attendance. Those wishing to attend are to purchase tickets via Eventbrite and submit Annex A to the meet leader by 9 Jun 17. This 3-day event will be conducted under a JSAFTA, therefore accurate nominal roles and instructor details are required soonest. Civilian membersare permitted to attend so long as they hold relevant NGB awards and appropriate insurance. Currently there are 10 spaces available; however this could be increased if demand exceeds this. Last minute nominations will still be considered after this date; however they must still purchase a ticket and submit Annex A. Annex B (to follow) will contain a list of those personnel who are enrolled and eligible to attend.
- Payment. The meet will cost £20 (1-2 days) or £30 (3 days) per head. There is no reduction in costs for those attending a single day. All payments are to be made online using Eventbrite. The invitation to purchase tickets will be received via email. Please note that once places have been booked, payment is non-refundable.
- Duty status. Individuals must gain parent unit authority to attend and ensure details of the meet are placed on Part 1 Orders. The meet will be run in accordance with 2010DIN10-009 dated Feb 2010 ‘Mountaineering as Sport’ and frago 01 to OpO 14/002 - The Army’s Approach to ‘Risk to Life’ – Sport and Adventurous Training. The weekend is recognised as an official ASCB event, however travel and subsistence costs must still be authorised by own unit budgets – ask your RAO.
- Arrival and briefing. Members attending the whole meet are expected to arrive on the Friday evening. An introductory brief will take place at 0900hrs on Sat 24 Jun 17. All members, without exception, are to attend this briefing.
- Accommodation and messing. The weekend will base out of Ochils Mountaineering Club (Inverardran) Cottage, Crianlarich,FK20 8QS(OS sheet 50, GRNN392250). Inverardran Cottage is the whitewashed building situated at the east end ofCrianlarich next to the Ben More Restaurant on the north side of the A85. The cottage has its own extensive parking area behind the building and is within easy walking distance ofCrianlarich railway station. The cottage can sleep up to 18 personnel although only 10 spaces have been booked. There are separate male and femaletoiletswithshowers, a ‘snug’, kitchen/diner,a smalldrying facility and limited Wi-Fi. All personnel should bring their own bedding/sleeping bag. Rooms are to be left clean and tidy before departure. Meals are an individual responsibility. Locally theBen More LodgeHotel offers a public bar, restaurant/bar meals (best to book) and additional Wi-Fi access. Further into the village theRod and Reel puband theCrianlarich Hotelalso offer food.
- Programme. Annex C.
- Safety. The conduct of training is viewed very seriously by Army HQ and the AMA. Every measure necessary will be adopted to ensure activities are safe. All activities must be conducted in accordance with JSP 419 policy and guidance. The meet leader and instructors have the authority to restrict individuals should they consider that any practice breaches the ‘safe system of training’; safe people, safe equipment, safe practice and safe place. In accordance with best practice, all personnel are required to wear recognised PPE and follow guidance contained in safety briefs and risk assessments. Personnel who wish to train in organised and qualified groups may do so provided instructors operate within the remit of their qualifications, daily risk assessments are conducted (including contact details) and all personnel book out/in with the meet leader.
- Equipment. Individuals must bring their own equipment and clothing. No equipment is available from the meet leader. Only ropes that are certified fit for use by instructors may be used during the meet. Annex D contains a suggest kit list.
- Local information. Local information is available on the OMC cottage website. Of note:
- Supplies. Supermarkets are available at Alexandria (Aldi approaching from south) and Callander (Tesco Express, from the east). Crianlarich has a general store as does Tyndrum (The Green Welly Stop).
- Climbing wall. In the event of adverse weather, indoor climbing venues can be used. The nearest is Ice Factor in Kinlochleven approximately 1 hour north of Crianlarich.
- Medical. The nearest medical facilities are:

- Out of hours care. During ‘out of hours’ periods patients requiring GP/MIU services should telephone NHS 24 on 111. Following assessment they may be directed to attend their nearest MIU or Primary Care Emergency Centre.
