1.  PURPOSE: This Specification defines Vicor Corporation requirements for compliance with European Union Directive (2006/122/EC) on the Restriction on the marketing and use of certain dangerous Substances and Preparations (Perfluorooctane sulfonates - PFOS). This Directive is separate from the RoHS Directive and pertains to a Substance not addressed by EU RoHS (PFOS). Despite this separation, the RoHS Compliance Manager shall oversee the application of this document.

2.  SCOPE:

2.1.  This specification applies to all materials, parts, assemblies and products supplied to Vicor. These materials, parts, assemblies and products may have this specification, or the CST Cover Document CST-0001, cited on their respective Vicor part number drawings, part or product specifications, procurement agreements, purchase contracts, purchase orders or other procurement documentation, but this is not a definitive requirement. Westcor and Picor are mentioned in the following paragraphs for reference only.

2.2.  The supplier is responsible for compliance with this specification as well as for any subcontracted operations and procured parts, materials, products or assemblies used in the manufacture of components, parts, assemblies, and products for Vicor applications.

3.  LIST OF RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1.  Vicor Suppliers (Reference).

3.2.  Vicor RoHS Compliance Manager.

3.3.  Vicor BBU/VI Chip BU Quality Assurance.

3.4.  Vicor BBU/VI Chip BU Supply Chain Management.

3.5.  Vicor BBU/VI Chip BU Manufacturing Engineering.

3.6.  Westcor Manufacturing Administration.

3.7.  Picor Quality Assurance.

4.  PROCEDURE

4.1.  Substances Prohibited from use [RoHS Program Management]

4.1.1.  In accordance with the European Union Directive 2006/122/EC, PFOS may not be placed on the market or used as a Substance or constituent of a Preparation in a concentration equal to or higher than 0.005% by mass. PFOS may also not be placed on the market in semi-finished Products or Articles if the concentration of PFOS is equal to or higher than 0.1% by mass.

4.1.2.  Per the Directive, certain Exemptions apply. This Directive will not apply to:

4.1.2.1.  Photoresists or anti reflective coatings for photolithography processes,

4.1.2.2.  Photographic Coatings applied to films, papers or printing plates,

4.1.2.3.  Mist suppressants for non-decorative hard Chromium (VI) plating,

4.1.2.4.  Hydraulic Fluids for Aviation.

4.2.  PFOS has been shown to be very persistent, very bioaccumulative and toxic. Testing has indicated that PFOS is present in the blood stream of wildlife and human beings from across the entire planet.

4.3.  In the semiconductor industry, PFOS is used in multiple photolithographic chemicals. This use is currently exempt, but this usage has been phased out of the EU Semiconductor Industry. It is currently still in use in the Asian Semiconductor Industry, except in Japan.

4.4.  For Vicor Products, the only uses that pertain to items used in Vicor manufacturing processes are Semiconductor Devices and Plated Components plated with Hexavalent Chromium. However, as a result of Vicor compliance with EU RoHS, Hexavalent Chromium has been removed from all Vicor Product.

4.5.  It will be Vicor policy that all purchased Semiconductor devices shall be free of PFOS. All Vicor Suppliers of Semiconductor Product have confirmed that their Products are PFOS Free. This is being confirmed by the Vicor Material Declaration effort.

4.6.  As PFOS is not used or present in any Vicor part/assembly, no approved substitute is required to be specified.
