1.purpose of the job
  • Working with senior management, plan and develop the volunteer service for the next 5-10 years.
  • Implement objectives for the volunteer service which reflects the Charity’s vision and strategy.
  • Responsible for the overall direction and management of all volunteers and fosterers.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure volunteers receive up-to-date and relevant communications and information.
  • Plan, develop and lead the Charity’s corporate Learning and Development programme.
  • Provide general support and guidance to the Director of Corporate Services.
2.KEY OBJECTIVES

Volunteer Management

  • Directinvestment and growth in accordance with the Charity’s long-term strategic plan.
  • Roll-out and safeguard a common framework for volunteering s and fostering across all sites.
  • Regularly review the contribution of the volunteer service to the Charity to ensure optimum support is available to all relevant departments.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures that guide the volunteer and foster services.
  • Responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of the Charity’s volunteer database.
  • Ensure the timely provision of statistical data relating to the volunteer and foster service.

Volunteer Retention and Engagement

  • Support Volunteer Co-ordinators and Department Managers in the recruitment, training and retention of volunteers and fosterers.
  • Provide advice and guidance in best practice recruitment and retention.
  • Facilitate on going communication with volunteers and fosterers, and lead on regular volunteer meetings.
  • Keep abreast of developmental trends in the field of volunteering and maintains links with external volunteer umbrella organisations and volunteer manager’s peer group.
  • Establish and develop procedures for evaluating and recognising the contribution of volunteers and fosterers, co-ordinating with national volunteering events and working closely with the communications department.

Learning & Development Programme

  • Lead the Charity’s corporate Learning and Development programme overseeing corporate-led training for staff across the Charity.
  • Assist in the design, delivery and implementation of the corporate Learning and Development programme.
  • Support the identification and delivery of new Learning and Development interventions relevant to Charity-wide strategic priorities.
  • Ensure the Learning and Development programme is aligned to the Charity’s human resource and recruitment strategy.
  • Ensure Managers, Deputy Mangers and Volunteer Coordinators receive training and guidance in volunteer management.
  • Ensure all volunteers receive regular and appropriate training, guidance and supervision. This will include an induction prior to commencing their role to ensure they are fully conversant with the expectations and standards of the charity.
3.OTHER COMMENSURATE DUTIES
  • As directed by the Director of Corporate Services, provide general support as required.
  • Participate in and coordinate projects as directed.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the responsibility and remit of the role
