1. ORGANISATION INFORMATION

Introduction

Northern Health provides a diverse range of acute, sub-acute and community health services to the large and diverse population in the regions north of Melbourne. There are five campuses; Broadmeadows Health Service, Bundoora Extended Care Centre, The Northern Hospital at Epping, Panch Health Service at Preston, and Craigieburn Health Service.

2. ROLE STATEMENT

The Pharmacy Clinical Leader will be accountable for pharmacy clinical servicesacross the Northern Health multi-campus service. They will provide leadership to ensure excellence in medication management across the continuum of care through innovative pharmacy practice and research. They will have both administrative and management responsibilities for pharmacy clinical services and the pharmacy Clinical Education program.. The Pharmacy Clinical Leader will work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Allied Health - Pharmacy to achieve the organisational objectives.

The Pharmacy Clinical Leaderwill have also have Allied Health responsibilities as part of the Northern Health Allied Health Leadership Group.

Staff are required to travel and/or work across the sites of Northern Health.

3.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Experienced pharmacist with highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Motivated and proactive and committed to the provision of best practice care
  • Possesses skills and experience in service improvement and innovation and an appreciation of interdisciplinary practice
  • Possesses highly developed self-management skills including the ability to meet timelines and prioritise competing demands
  • Is able to interpret information, data and evidence to inform decision making and planning
  • Has a strong commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Has a knowledge and understanding of the cultural diversity of the community
  • Is activelyengagedin the pharmacy profession including SHPA and any other relevant professional bodies
  • Understands the opportunities and role of Pharmacy both in the in the health service strategic direction and from the wider community health prospective
  • Understands the governance and legislative responsibilities of a Pharmacy Leader and is able to work with the Associate Director to achieve these requirements

Desirable:

  • Relevant second language
  • Published research

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Pharmacy Qualification
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence

Preferred:

  • Current National Police RecordCheck
  • Post Graduate Qualification: Clinical or Management (or in progress)
  • Published Research

Experience

Essential:

  • Comprehensive clinical experience as a hospital Pharmacist
  • Work experience which includesleadership responsibility for teams or services
  • Experience in leading and developing Clinical Education programs
  • Background which includes significant experience in service improvement and redesign
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Experience the selection, recruitment and retention of staff
  • Experience in the implementation and monitoring of clinical governance systems and compliance for Pharmacy Services

Preferred:

  • Involvement in clinical research
  • Experience in project management

KRA: Service Delivery:

  • SP1: Utilises health information and data to monitor, evaluate and improve service and team performance
  • SP2:Provides timely and accurate reporting of activity across Pharmacy services and uses this information to ensure best use of resources
  • SP3:Ensures that services delivered are evidence based and client centred and the enhance continuity of care
  • SP3: Supports staff to engage in research and improvement activities with the aim to present at conferences and in other professional arenas
  • SP4:Ensures systems are in place to facilitate an active learning culture and support teams and individuals to improve NH Pharmacy Services

KRA: Organisational Management:

  • SP1:Works with the Associate Director of Pharmacy to monitor performance of clinical Services in line with quality, financial and budgetary constraints
  • SP2:Ensures systems are in place to ensure NH pharmacy compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and standards
  • SP3:Actively contributes to the Pharmacy and Allied Health planning for clinical, staff and service development in the context of the wider NH Strategic Plan
  • SP4:Works with staff to foster and develop clinical and leadership skills appropriate to the staff grade level

KRA: Human Resources Management and Workforce Planning:

SP1:, Implements and supports the NH Allied Health supervision framework to achieve effective outcomes for all staff within the discipline/service area

SP1 : Has systems in place to ensure staff are competent and have the skills and knowledge to provide best practice services

SP2: Provides responsible resource management to effectively and efficiently meet client needs.

SP2: Works with the Associate Director to monitor HR KPIs and staff performancein the context of the NH Allied Health Avatar

  • Leadspatient safety and quality of care by:
  • Implementing the Risk Management Policy and Framework within area/s of responsibility and ensure risk management strategies and processes are embedded into work practices
  • Promoting a culture of risk awareness and ownership
  • Managing and monitoring business, safety and operational risks within area/s of responsibility, reporting key/emerging risks and opportunities to relevant Executive Director/ Director / Line Manager.

KRA: Customer Service and Consumer participation

KPIs

  • Exhibits customer service behaviours in all interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Works with consumers to improve the safety and quality of services.
  • Supports achievement of Northern Health’s Cultural Responsiveness Plan.
  • Promotes a culture of person centred care
  • Actively engages consumers in service improvement activities as per the NH Consumer Participation and Patient Experience Framework

KRA: Training and Development

KPIs

  • Ensure mandatory training is completed, monitored and promoted within the discipline
  • Ensure that mandatory training requirements are identified for each clinician
  • Ensure performance review is provided in an active and timely manner and that this includesestablishing and working toward achievement of a professional development plan
