Problem

1. Indentify the purpose/objective of the rating scale/assessment instrument/evaluation tool

The purpose of this scale is to evaluate proper form for youth baseball players.

Refining the Problem

2. Provide a description of the student/client/athlete population for which the rating scale is designed.

This evaluation is based on youth baseball player’s ages (10-14) that are interested in playing AAU baseball teams

3. Identify how you could use the rating scale

This scale can be used as a test. The test will give head coaches a better understanding of how each child plays the game and what needs to be taught to enhance the child’s ability.

4. Identify the components/characteristics of the skill/issue you have selected to evaluate and why you have selected to emphasize these specific items. You may select to emphasize process, product or both.

The most important skills of baseball are hitting, fielding and throwing. These three skills are needed in order to be a good baseball player. Children need to learn at a young age how to execute these skills in order too be successful later in life.

Instrumentation and Methodology

5. Your scale should differentiate between levels of correct/acceptable performance

The evaluation will rate children on a scale from one to four. Score one will assess the child is participating but does not have the ability to execute the task. Score two will assess that the child can complete some of the skills but is making minor mistakes. Score three will assess that the child can acquire each skill. Level four will assess that the child can easily execute the skill and can master it in live games.

6. What would the test administrator need to know about using this instrument and the procedures followed to administer the rating scale?

The coaches will need some different equipment. This equipment consists of, baseballs, gloves, bats and equipment that needs to be on the baseball field. Organization is a key component. If coaches are not organized then each child may not have a fair shot of performing their skills

Analysis of Results

7. Describe how you would use the results of the rating scale.

The overall purpose of this scale is to show youth baseball players what skills they need to improve on. The main goal is for all children to give 100% and work as hard as they can because the same thing applies for the classroom setting. Just because a student does not well on his or her tests in the classroom does not mean they are going to fail the class. This will be a formative evaluation because the children will be enhancing their skills.
