1)Download and install the latest stable release of the ShrewSoft VPN Client. It is available at:

You will have access to 32 and 64 bit versions for Windows 2K/XP/Vista and Unix.

2)Open the Shrew Soft VPN Access Manager and click “Add.” It will be located under “Start->All Programs->ShrewSoft VPN Client->Access Manager.”

3)You will be presented with a “VPN Site Configuration” dialog box. Under the “General tab”, enter 173.2.147.188cnis-vpn.dyndns.org where it says “Host Name or IP Address.”

4)Under the “Authentication” tab, make sure the” Authentication Method” is set to “Mutual PSK + XAuth” and that under the ”Local Identity” sub-tab, the “FQDN String” is set to vpnclient.cnis.nyit.edu

5)Under the ”Remote Identity” sub-tab, make sure the “FQDN String” is set to Diablo.cnis.nyit.edu

6)Under the ”Credentials” sub-tab, make sure to set the “Pre Shared Key” to vpnUS~10 and click “Save.”

7)Name the connection to anything you would like. To start the VPN tunnel, double click the VPN entry you just created in the Shrew Soft VPN Access Manger.

8)You will be presented with a credentials dialog box, make sure the “Username” is set to vpnuser and the “Password” is set to vpnUS~10 and then click “Connect.”

9)Once the VPN tunnel has been created, you should be presented with a dialog box such as the following. To disconnect from the VPN gateway, simply click “Disconnect.”

10)Before you can access the VMware server using the name “vmserver12” on a Windows box, you will need to perform the following steps. Click “Start->Control Panel->Network Connections->Local Area Connection” and you will be presented with the “Local Area Connection Status” dialog box. Click “Properties.”

11)You will be presented with the “Local Area Connection Properties” dialog box. Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” from the listbox and click “Properties.”

12)You will be presented with the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” dialog box, click on “Advanced.”

13)You will be presented with the “Advanced TCP/IP Settings” dialog box. Select the “DNS” tab and select the “Append these DNS suffixes (in order):” radio button. Click “Add.”

14)You will be presented with the “TCP/IP Domain Suffix” dialog box, enter cnis.nyit.edu and click “Add.”

15)You should see cnis.nyit.edu added to the DNS suffix list. Click “Ok” on all remaining dialog boxes.

16)Once you are inside the VPN tunnel and have performed the previous steps, you should be able to access the VMware server via Remote Desktop and the VMware Server Console as usual.
