Note: In the early 1980s, DC Drake started a small independent promotion in eastern Pennsylvania named the Continental Wrestling Alliance. In the mid-80s when he joined up with New Jersey promoter Bob Raskin, the National Wrestling Federation was born. The company gained television clearances in many markets throughout the country, but lost them in 1988. At this point, Drake retired from the wrestling business (although he would return later). The in ring style was traditional pro wrestling on the undercards with hardcore style matches at the top of the card. Much like the independents that would follow, the company used local independent wrestlers underneath with the top of the card filled out with national stars who were not affiliated with the WWF or Jim Crockett Promotions. Many consider the NWF to be an inspirational precursor to Tri-State Wrestling and ECW.
